James 4:6 Grace To The Humble

James 4:6

6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

After James gives a bold message in his letter to the Christians, saying faith without works is dead, and be faithful in our vow to God, James says God gives greater grace to the humble. The  epistle of James is a reflection of what James heard at the famous sermon on the mount, humbleness is what a person needs to accept God’s grace to be blessed on earth and the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.

Grace is a favorite subject of Christians, it tells the Lord loves His creation and He offers them salvation and His grace is freely available when the poor in spirit and the meek accept it. Is the Lord really against the proud or are they against Him? The proud in heart is too arrogant to believe they need God and will do whatever is right in his or her own eyes to anything the word of God says, that is a better way of living. Imagine a stubborn arrogant person as a young child who refuses to listen to their parents or any authority, they fight back, kick and scream, so what can anyone do for a child who won’t listen. Now I study many different English versions of the Holy Bible and look up  grace and humbleness at 5 (NASB, KJV, NKJV, NLT, NIV and the AMP). Both the NKJV and the AMP have the words together in Proverbs 3:34 but I like the AMP words how God gives grace to the humble and not to the proud.

Proverbs 3:34 Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, Yet He gives His grace [His undeserved favor] to the humble [those who give up self-importance]. 35 The wise will inherit honor and glory, But dishonor and shame is conferred on fools.

Grace is still an undeserving favor, even when He gives it to the humble, but the poor and meek are broken enough to accept it and say thank you God. The foolish will whatever is right in their eyes, and will get salvation or satisfaction or the meaning to life by their own means. Ask yourself this, is it really grace if  you or I are fighting against our Maker and refusing to live by His directions,  if it causes us chaos, conflict and not sure what tomorrow will bring. Grace from God is a amazing gift, but if you or I are doing whatever we feel like, grace is just useless to anyone who is too proud to listen to God. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I. Samuel Head

1 Peter 5:4  And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time,
