John 3:4 New Baby Spirit
Nicodemus is like many veteran believers of the Lord who need help understanding the concept of being born again. Nicodemus knew of the Godly signs and miracles Jesus was performing but had not accepted Him as the Messiah. How can a grown man be born again? Nicodemus asks Jesus; his carnal mind could not understand that spiritual statement. The words being born again are not in the Old Testament, but the knowledge of the person being born in the flesh of sin is. King David wrote in Psalm 51 that he was a sinner from the day of his birth.
Psalm 51:5 Surely, I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
The Psalmist David asks the Lord to give him a new heart and send His Holy Spirit to keep God nearby. Same as the sinner’s prayer asking God to come live inside their heart and save them. They repent their sins and ask God to help them be more like Him. Once a spiritual rebirth starts, a new child of God will begin seeking the kingdom of heaven. When the Lord sees the person is genuinely submitted, He will give them the new heart and birth they ask for. This is how God prepares a newborn person for His kingdom.
