Psalm 22:6-8 I Am A Crimson Worm

Psalm 22:6-8

6 But I am a worm and not a person, A disgrace of mankind and despised by the people. 7 All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying, 8 “Turn him over to the Lord; let Him save him;Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

The prophetic words of the thoughts and feelings of what Christ went through during His suffering while being crucified, can be very difficult for one who loves Jesus to read and reflect. For those of us who read the holy word of and to those who hear the word preach, will know that Jesus never once complained or even opened His mouth to defend Himself to say He was in pain. And the writers of the Bible wrote that Jesus would be silent before it happened and afterwards.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.

Acts 8:32  Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “He was led like a sheep to slaughter; And like a lamb that is silent before its shearer, So He does not open His mouth.

Jesus is being mocked very harshly and abused from the time He was arrested, during His time on trial before the fake religious leaders, by the Roman soldiers and while He was on the cross He was mocked by many   and by one of the criminals.

Luke 23:39  One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!”

The way we can see how Jesus feels is by reading the prophetic word of King David in Psalm 22, and verse 6 He compares Himself to a worm. We read the words, He is being made lower than mankind and despised by the people He made and currently dying for their sins,and their children’s sin. For the Savior of all the world to call Himself a helpless, hopeless worm that is usually walked over by man  or crawls underneath the dirt and mud  or completely unseen is pretty hard for someone who loves Jesus to read and take in. There is a creature that is sometimes called a worm but is called a caterpillar, to a child a caterpillar might be called a worm. If the people who are mocking Jesus were at any spiritual walk, they would be like children. Children at a young age, can be very blunt and say whatever, and sometimes be insulting. Bullying exists mostly in grade school, and only goes on in adulthood if the person never matures and remains childish their whole life. On the cross the Savior of the world looks rough up and abuses human beings, but He won’t remain that way and He won’t remain despised by mankind. For those of us who get our daily bread, the holy word of God tells us that those who insult and mock Him and even pierce Him will see Him and all eyes will see Him at one time, one day not years apart and hear Him say He is the Alpha and the Omega. To themselves  they might have said out loud or in their thoughts. I think we made a mistake. 

Revelation 1:7  Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Dear brothers and sisters if you read the prophetic words of Psalm 22 and feel some sadness for our Savior. If you feel like you are unworthy like He didn’t deserve to go through the absence of not feeling His Father’s presence, the pain and suffering of being flogged, pierced and insulted , don’t be. It was His love of us, and even for the love of the people around the cross, that held Him to the cross, not the sharp metal of the nails hammered through His hands and feet.
