1 Samuel 1:20
Proverbs 4:16-17 It’s 4:03 am and I Can’t Sleep

Proverbs 4:16-17 It’s 4:03 am and I Can’t Sleep

Proverbs 4:16-17

16 For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble. 17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

Sleep is important for all life, just as important and necessary as water, food, and oxygen. It helps the body repair itself, the heart rate slows down, blood pressure drops, which allows the heart to take a break. During sleep, hormones are released to slowed breathing, with a combination of the heart and lungs working less, the muscles relax which refused inflammation. The lack of sleep is very unhealthy, mental health issues increase, and the immune system of the body is weaker, the chance of getting sick increases also. Sleep is very important living in a world of sin, and the Lord knew this, so much, so that the word sleep is in scripture 102 times. God put Adam to sleep in the garden of Eden to provide him a helpmate, his wife Eve, Genesis 2:21. I think Adam and Eve, learned how horrible and sick sin was when Cain their firstborn son, killed his brother Abel, and as a result, Cain went  away far from home. God told Cain he would never have peace again and lived a life like a wanderer and a drifter, Cain said the punishment was more than he could bear, Genesis 4:12-15. We all are a sinner, but not so much as evil to commit an evil  act like murder, robbing, assaulting of any kind physical or mental, but jail cells and prisons are full of people who have done such harsh crimes. Some criminal acts happen on impulse, like a crime of passion, that is why  scripture says to be slow to speak and slow to anger.

James 1:19 You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

I am very guilty of having a short temper, and it’s very easy to react in such a way that I might regret it later. A quick impulse  can make a person suffer for a lifetime. The real lack of sleep would come with a strong desire to have, scriptures use the word lust. Many say the word lust is a strong sexual desire but can be a strong desire for money, power, and  food which can lead to Gluttony. So overall, a person with a strong desire in their heart will not rest or get any sleep until it gets what it wants. That is 100% evil, not acting on an impulse or accident, many acts of evil crimes takes planning in advance. Take, for example, the famous serial killer Jack the Ripper of London, England in 1888. He had to plans in advance to kill the women he was after and a letter was found that was supposed to have been written by Jack, and it was called, “ From Hell ”. Most of the time, an evil person knows he or she is evil so maybe the only peaceful sleep they get is being locked up in a prison cell, but those that help them sleep from the demons that live within their minds. God bless you all, the Prince of Peace loves you and so do I. Samuel J Head

Psalm 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, Lord, have me dwell in safety.

James 4:1 What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body’s parts? 2 You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.
