Proverbs 3:5-7 I Need You Jesus, I Surrender All
From my teen days to my late ’20s I was a heavy metal, hard rock loud music rock n’ roll freak. Every time I listened to music it helped me relax or took me to another place. One of my favorite rock groups was W.A.S.P., I heard rumors it stood for we are Satan’s people or we are sexual perverts, neither one are good. I remember songs with titles like 95 nasty, Lucifer Magic, and songs I can’t even say. When I first joined the church, I had a stack of CDs, about 300, full of music from Marilyn Manson, Motley Crue, and Korn. I lost my job at the time and I needed money, and the Lord had impressed me to change my taste in music, so I told my brother to sell all my CDs and what he doesn’t sell he could keep. Not long after that, I started to treasure music that gave praise and worship to the Lord. I like ancient hymns. The hymn, “ I Surrender All,;” written by Judson W. Van Deventer. Judson spent most of his life wanting to be an artist but his love for God made him a good evangel. His church members and friend, to Judson to go to work for God was full-time. So one day Judson, said to himself and God, I want to work for the Lord, little did he know that the Lord took his love for art and wrote the song, “ I Surrender All, “. Recently I had moments of weakness and downloaded a lot of music from groups I used to listen to and one of them was W.A.S.P. . One evening I was at my computer and I heard what sounded like W.A.S.P. and Blackie Lawless singing but I heard words come out his mouth I never dreamed of. It was the same band, but I looked at the title of the song it was, ‘ Golgotha’ and the lyric I heard was about Jesus dying on the cross. These words coming from Blackies mouth were like, “ Jesus, I need you now Free me, I’m lost somehow Oh, remember me today I’m a leper left to hang. Oh, yes I need you now’ So I did some research on Blackie and found out, he grew up a Christian. He left the church and became a shock-rock artist. One day scripture came to his thought, ( Deuteronomy 4:30 ) which led him to give his life back to God and now sing songs with lyrics to the Lord and makes a statement like, Jesus I need you now, free me. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I. Samuel J Head.
