Proverbs 11:18

The wicked man does deceptive work, but he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.

It is supposed to be a legitimate occupation, and a pastor is someone who feels as if God is telling him to do so. Throughout scripture, a pastor has had many titles. The most famous is the title of priest, and many still use it. Pastors, like priests and preachers, are referred to as clergy. Catholics use the word father, and the Pope is the church’s supreme father. Jews like to refer to themselves as rabbis, which means teachers, but the bible’s favorite word is the shepherd. In some ways, the church shies away from the title reverend since it implies someone is equal to God. Christians and non-Christians alike know that not all pastors are reverent. TV evangelistic preachers seem to go together. Prosperity teaches devotion to God promises wealth. The Catholic church used to sell indulgences to help build churches and swear to whoever bought them would reduce their time in purgatory or even a loved one. Jim Baker was a humble preacher at first, but his gift of using television quickly earned money. Using satellite and cable television, he and his wife are preaching the gospel of Jesus 24/7. The evangelist company of Jim Baker was named PTL Club, Praise the Lord, and was tax-exempt because it was religion. The more money he saw, the more he used it for his purpose and less to do God’s work. He built an amusement park like a religious Six Flags or Disneyland. His pets had air condition dog houses. There was some suspicion by the government that Jim Baker was committing fraud. Still, because he was religious, they kept a distance. Jim was saying the government officials were doing the work of the devil cause Jim was only doing the Lord’s work. The FCC had been investigating Jim Baker for a long time; they found no evidence of fraud. Jessica Hahn, his secretary, reported that sexual misconduct had happened. The FCC and IRS went after him with full force cause Baker no longer looked so revenant. He had to resign his position at the PTL CLUB, and he was arrested. Jim Baker said he was raising money to do God’s work; Baker kept millions for himself. In 1988, Jim Baker was found guilty of many accounts of the fraud. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison. In 1994 Baker was released early but still owed $6 million to the IRS. In 2003, Baker returned preaching on tv, but the force on selling supplies to be ready for end-time events. Since the being of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jim Baker has tried to gain profit from the virus. Trying to sell supplements, he says it fights the coronavirus. The government quickly ordered him to stop making false claims and not sell medicine that did what he said. Since then, Baker has had a few strokes, and the federal court ordered he pays back the $157,000 for the fake medicine he sold. So overall, the man who used to call himself the Reverend Jim Baker is not very reverent; he only has the prosperity of sorrow. When non-believers know that when a person says he is a man of God, but he lives like the devil, it gives the gospel of Jesus Christ a bad name. If you want a proper reward, make the love of Jesus Christ your true wealth. God bless you all; the Lord loves you, and so do I. Samuel J Head.

Hebrews 13:5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He, Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you,” 6 so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?” 7 Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their way of life, imitate their faith.
