Matthew 7:12 Law and the Prophets are the Golden Rule of Love

Matthew 7:12

“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Jesus teaches the golden rule inside the greatest sermon ever preached & the world would be a perfect place of pure harmony. Jesus also teaches that golden rule is Law and the Prophets, & the statement might confuse someone who really doesn’t study scripture. So it might help Christians to understand all of Matthew 7:12 by knowing what the phrase the Law and the Prophets means. Like many times i have said in my writings & personal study of scripture, the word of God, answers & explains what the word of God says. The phrase “Law and the Prophets,’ is the Holy Bible 17 times. The first time the phrase is mentioned is in 2 Kings 17:13 & the definition of that Bible verse & it saying the phrase the Law of the Prophets is God’ Commandments.

2 Kings 17:13  Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep My commandments, My statutes according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.”

Jesus is telling His congregation of followers both then & now, that to treat each other with love, is obeying God’s Ten Commandments. How can that be possible some Christians & some Churches teach, the Old Testament & it’s Commandments were done away with. Many times in the New Testament, Jesus & other Biblical teachers say, God wants us to love each other, that  it is a new commandment.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Before being selected to teach the Sermon on the Mount, I text a personal friend named Kathleen. I said Kathleen, I give you a choice as to what to teach next my Bible devotional. I gave her two choices. Either the 10 Commandments or the Sermon on the Mount. But I ended up doing both, Jesus teaches the Commandments of God will never pass away & if anyone teaches disobeying them is allowed, that teacher is called least in Heaven.

Matthew 5:17“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

For anyone to say, the Law of God was done away with is foolish, cause God never wanted us to hate each other. The Lord wants children to love each other like loving brothers & sisters. The Lord design His Holy Commandment to two sections, Commandments one to four is instruction for us to show love & respect to Him. Commandments six to ten are love & respect we are to show each other. If God’s children show love & respect to their Heavenly Father then honoring & loving each other would be peace & harmony would be  global. But sadly that isn’t the case, no one wants to love God the way His Holy was asked, they want to do what is right in his or her eyes. People are seeking worldly peace & love, but  it happens until the kings of hate & sin, done away with it. Do you look for that time to come or are you comfortable in the world of chaos? Let’s all look forward to when Lord Jesus returns, can I get an Amen. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus you & so do I. Sam H.

Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
