Matthew 5:38-42 Beatitude Of Not Seeking Revenge

Matthew 5:38-41

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.40 If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. 41 Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.42 Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

As Jesus continues the greatest sermon ever preached, He is telling His followers to react like the body of sin you & I live in, wants to. Naturally when someone hurts you or I, we want to return action for action. We really don’t know how natural it is for you & me to sin, as almost breathing oxygen. When a carpenter accidentally hits himself with a hammer, he might say a foul word, instantaneously. The same reaction when someone strikes  our face violently & it stings really bad. A blow to the face might be hard to resist, but this Bible passage is more than about a slap to the face; verbal abuse is also hard to resist. Children will exchange insults, by saying, “Your momma, this & Your momma that’’ the insult go back & forth, until an adult stops it or the children fight.  Jesus teaching in Matthew 5 at the Sermon on the Mount is not the first time Scripture tells God’s children, resist evil, or not return evil for evil & even let the evil person be, trying to correct him or her, they will hate you more, only correct the wise who willingly to listen to reasoning, he or she will love you for a loving correction.

Proverbs 9:7 Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return. Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.8 So don’t bother correcting mockers; they will only hate you.But correct the wise, and they will love you.

Jesus always being up in court cases & being sued, rather than going all the way through court to dispute an issue with someone, give them what he or she wants. You might get someone to the kingdom of heaven. Plus Christians aren’t supposed to worry about worldly goods. The apostle Paul tells believers in  (1 Corinthians 6:1-8) believers shouldn’t take another believer to court, cause they look foolish to the non-believers. The non-believers are always you who can’t judge me & will say you Christians & have issues with each other, why should I be like you & join the church of Christ? All the lessons Jesus preaches on the Sermon the Mount is, do not give as you receive, instead, show humbleness when it isn’t shown to, give love when it’s not given to you. Take the abuse from a hateful person because they are foolish, & finally give away with what God gave you anyway, if you trust Him, He will replace it, you know this if have read( Psalm 23:1 ). My beloved, you will be blessed if you practice what Jesus teaches His followers in the Sermon on the Mount. Life is less stressful, when you don’t return evil for evil & act those, who say they believe God’s love, but practice hate like Satan. God bless you all, be blessed. The Lord loves you & so do I. 1 Peter 3:8 To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kind hearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but [b]giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. 10 For,“The one who desires life, to love and see good days, Must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.
