Matthew 1:18-25 Immanuel’s Daddy

Matthew 1:18-21

18 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph before they came together, she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, since he was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. 20 But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a Son; and you shall name Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Joseph really loves Mary very much, and she was to be his wife and was looking forward to sharing a life with her and raising a family. Joseph didn’t know why Mary was looking pregnant, she was a God-fearing person like himself, wonder who she was the father of the baby growing in her womb. According to the laws of God’s word cause, first of all, it seems adultery had happened, and then by appearance, Mary had broken a vow to God and Joseph to be faithful and give herself to be his wife and only lover. When matters of the flesh disturb a righteous man, it causes him anxiety and Joseph couldn’t sleep. The Lord saw Joseph was in trouble, so He sent an angel to tell him that all is well and all a part of God’s plan. Joseph knew God’s word and His promise of the coming Messiah, he felt honored the Lord will make him the man that would rise the Messiah as a father on earth. The Lord gave Joseph permission to name the Son of God, Jesus, and that His name means salvation for all. If Mary was to be stoned, it would be up to Joseph to give the say so, cause it would have been up to him that the vow would have broken to the people of Nazareth,  but Joseph knew God’s plan. So to the people of Nazareth, Joseph showed Mary mercy would marry her anyway and raise another man’s child, even when between Mary, Joseph, and God they knew the Lord’s will be done. Now Joseph and Mary had other children and she didn’t stay a virgin, she was his wife and she loved her husband. Joseph must have loved Jesus very much as his own son and had forgotten He was the Son of God and Mary likewise. When Jesus was 12, Mary and Joseph went to keep the Passover holiday in Jerusalem. When they left Jesus wasn’t with them, so turn back to go looking for their son, and they found Him preaching in the temple. With the question, they ask Him, you can even tell, they forgot He was the Son of God but He quickie remind them, and even so, He continues to honor Joseph and Mary as His parents. Not much is written or knew of Joseph, but the Lord knew him well enough to be an earthly father of Jesus the Messiah. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I, Samuel J H.

Luke 2:48  When Joseph and Mary saw Him, they were bewildered; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You treated us this way? Behold, Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You!” 49 And He said to them, “Why is it that you were looking for Me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” 50 And yet they on their part did not understand the statement which He had made to them. 51 And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued to be subject to them, and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
