Luke 7:41-43 All Debt Great or Small Parable

Luke 7:40-43

40 Then Jesus answered his thoughts. “Simon,” he said to the Pharisee, “I have something to say to you.” “Go ahead, Teacher,” Simon replied. 41 Then Jesus told him this story: “A man loaned money to two people—500 pieces of silver to one and 50 pieces to the other. 42 But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts. Who do you suppose loved him more after that?” 43 Simon answered, “I suppose the one for whom he canceled the larger debt.” “That’s right,” Jesus said.

In my youth when I drove a car, I had a led foot and I guess that is common with most young people. One afternoon I was speeding  through Kings Mountain Battleground National Park, and I was pulled by a park ranger. He was very angry with me, telling me did I know what the speed limit was, do I respect the United States National Park system. He also told me he would arrest me and lock me up, but I had a young boy with me so he showed me mercy. Months later I had to go to a federal court in Columbia and I won’t lie,  I was very nervous. My name was called and my case was read, then the judge must have known the area and asked me if I was in a hurry to get to the bar near the park and I just said no. He just laughed and said, I dismiss your charges and all you have to pay is court costs, and I was very grateful. In a short parable Jesus asks who would be more grateful, if one person who had a heavy debt like 500 pieces of silver and the other only had 50. The answer is simple for any to, the person with the greater debt would be way thankful. But a debt is at any value, if you can’t afford to pay it , it can be a great debt. The Lord saw His children had rejected His direction that gave a long life and as result they died. The Father God is unlike many money loaners or providers, that will say, your debt is forgiven, as a matter of fact, I paid it. Everyone says God is the God of love, but they don’t understand He wants love in return. When God made Adam and Eve, the word He gave them, eat of the tree of life and you will have everlasting life, but disobedience to eating from the but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil beings death,(Genesis 2:16-17). Disobedience to God’s word puts a person in debt, but whoever fears God and obeys His word is rewarded.

Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life. 13 The one who despises the word will be in debt to it, But the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded.

Keeping the commandments of is very difficult for the children of , and the debt to is extremely high and would take all of mankind, past, present and future to pay it. So God who is the money loaner in the parable of the two  debtors had a plan to cancel everyone’s great bill. Tomorrow  I will continue, I will  explain how our great God plans to redeem those lost in a majority debt. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel H.
