Luke 6:46-49 A King’s Foundation Parable

Luke 6:46-49 A King’s Foundation Parable

Luke 6:46-49

46  “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. 49 But the one who has heard and has not acted accordingly, is like a man who built a house on the ground without any foundation; and the torrent burst against it and immediately it collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.”

When I saw Jesus’ second parable, I said to myself, I already taught his topic from my Sermon on the Mount series from my  Matthew 7:24-27 The Cornerstone and Water Damage blog. Each night when I finish a blog, I look at the next Bible passage. This morning when I woke up to do my normal morning thing, I wondered how to explain the foundation of Jesus Christ is solid. As I was deep thinking, I felt the house shake and items on the shelf move and it only lasted a minute and I thought, I just experienced an earthquake in North Carolina where earthquakes never happen. The foundation of the world is shaky  and not very solid, it may seem from our daily life. When the earth moves from underneath you feet, you realize the word of God is the true foundation that is everlasting.

Isaiah 40:7-8 The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.

Jesus says to His followers  how to recognize me as Lord, if you truly don’t listen to my words. I know a lot of people who say they believe  in God. But they don’t do anything His word teaches, we can see how their life is chaotic and completely falling apart. Take for example the King of Rock n Roll Elvis Presley, he was baptized multiple times in many church denominations. He mostly grew up with Pentecostal teachings. When Elvis came into music screen, he was mostly a rock n rock artist and became very popular fast.Mostly because he was the first white man in a music was done by African American, so he was given the title of the king of rock n roll. Elvis showed his love for Jesus, by recording gospel music. Elvis’ foundation was not completely in words of the Jesus he sang about. With  recording music and shooting movies, he was always busy. He began to take pills to help sleep and pills to  stay awake and go, sadly like so many celebrities  he was addicted to this way of living . Elvis was doing so much to make himself a great entertainer , he had forgotten about the God he sang, “How Great Thou Art,” about. On  August 16, 1977 Elvis was found dead in his bathroom and probably didn’t look like a king of any kind. He will always be remembered as the king of rock n roll, but even his legacy will be forgotten by those who inherit the kingdom of heaven. Those people who scripture calls saints, put all their foundation on the solid words of Jesus and He was truly Lord to them. Listen to Jesus teaching in His  parable in Luke 6:46-49 and Matthew 7:24-27 and know that any other foundation is just sinking sand. God bless, the Lord loves you and so do I. Samuel H

1 Corinthians 3:11 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
