Luke 15:8-10 The Value Over The Lost

Luke 15:8-10 The Value Over The Lost

Luke 15:8-10

8 “Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Jesus tells another parable to explain the kingdom of heaven about how the Lord values His beloved children. A lady has a collection of ten silver coins; the World English Bible calls the coins drachma coins. A drachma is an ancient Greek worth about two days’ wages for an agricultural laborer. She may have been counting her collection of silver coins and noticed one piece missing, and she says to herself, Oh Hell!! She searches her whole house with a lamp, looking for the one lost coin. She moves her furniture, appliances, plants, and maybe clothes around from her closet, and she is desperate. Most people would count their losses and say I have nine silver pieces of coins; I should be happy. Maybe this woman appreciates the hard word she did to get these shiny silver coins, or perhaps a mother or father passed them down, and the coins are a memory of family members’ love. When she discovers her lost coins, she tells all her friends and looks at night. I bet she woke her friends up at night and asked them to join her in rejoicing over a lost coin she found. Her friends are very loving, and if they want to go back to sleep, they all gather together and celebrate with her joy of finding a lost item. The kingdom of God has the same value for you, and I, the angels of heaven, give praise and glory to a lost sinner that declares Christ as King. The Host of heaven appreciates your desire to look for Him in the dark world.  He cherishes you as Him, calling you and me a newfound joy. The parable of the lost coin should teach you how much the Lord Jesus loves and earnestly seeks to find you. May God bless you; the Lord Jesus and I love you. Samuel H.
