Isaiah 2:6 Hollow Treat

Isaiah 2:6

You, Lord, have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and embrace pagan customs.

The ancient world was very superstitious, and for a good reason. The holiday of Halloween has Celtic pagan roots in its beginning. It was called Samhain. Science did not exist, not like it does today. Most religions of the world had God or deities for everything. Many cultures worldwide worship the sun, the stars, the moon, the trees, and even cats or cows. The Hebrew Jews of Israel were the only people of the ancient that had one God, and Yahweh was His name. The idea of a religion of one God was utterly odd; that is why scripture says the followers of God are peculiar people.

Deuteronomy 26:18 And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments;

The Celtic people of northern Europe did not know who Yahweh was or who the Son of God, Jesus Christ, was. When the seasons got colder and darker, they feared that nighttime would increase and daylight would decrease. For the Celtic people, their new year was in the autumn, like Rosh Hashanah is a new year festival for the people of Israel. The Celtic people collected their harvest and celebrated a feast called Samhain. They built huge bonfires, cooked a lot of cattle, ate lots of meat, and then got drunk. Since they were superstitious people, they believed the increased darkness would make the spirits of the dead hunt the land more. So, they think and hope the bonfires would scare the spirits away. Trick or treating gets its roots from the Samhain practice of “Mummer” and “Guizer.” During the Samhain holiday, people wearing masks and costumes would go door to door. They would perform a funny act, like singing or dancing, and they hoped to receive a treat in return. Instead of teaching the Celtic to leave their pagan practice to be peculiar and obey God’s way alone, they blend paganism with scripture. Samhain was changed to All Hallows Eve, then later to Halloween. All Hallows Eve is before All Saints’ Day. Which is the day to remember the dead saints and martyrs. Samhain is not biblical, but the Christian church put the word hallow on it, trying to make it holy, but God’s word forbids that. Whatever is sacred in heaven must be holy on earth, but only God can do that, not a human. Dear brothers and sisters, do not trick or treat your salvation with God’s holy name. Make nothing holy that was a pagan from its birth. God bless you all; Jesus, who is Holy alone, loves you, and so do I. His humble bondservant, Samuel Jerry Head.

Psalm 135:4 For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure. 5 For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. 6 Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
