Luke 14:15-24 Free Food, BYOB (Bring Your Own Body)

Luke 14:15-24

15 When one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God! 16 But He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; 17 and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’ 18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’ 19 Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’ 20 Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’ 21 And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ 22 And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’”

My father once told me if you wanna a lot of visitors to a party or a gathering over, have free food. You know what, when I was always invited to someone’s party I always waited to hear if they had free food, so I made my daddy’s statement right. Most of the time free food is at weddings, birthday parties, graduation parties, I have even crashed a few funerals for free food, and I am being completely honest. The parable of the great dinner banquet follows the wedding seating ceremony parable but they are quite different. A very wealthy man is a guest, so he sends out dinner party invites to his close personal friends. When time for the dinner party and the wealthy man is waiting for his invited guest, no one shows up. So He send his servants to ask about his invite guest whereabouts, and they all make up foolish excuses to turn down free tasty food. When the wealthy man hears these foolish excuses he gets upset and tells his servants to go invite everyone you see, the poor, handicapped and just anyone. He has good tasty food he wants to share so it won’t’ go to waste and a good meal tastes good with company. The wealthy man knows that the poor and needy will not turn down good tasty food and he personally wants them to eat it all, so his first invited friends have nothing left to eat. The word of God (Holy Bible) is the Lord’s great banquet and His Spirit is the invitation. There are many people who say they believe in God, but really don’t read His word hardly at all and say they are just too busy. Then other Christians who hear  God’s word at church service once or twice a week. The people who are truly poor in spirit and know they need God’s word fills them up spiritually and physically . These people’s relationship with God is strong and never malnourished in God’s Holy Word. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel H.
