Matthew 13:33-35 Great Blessings from Small Amount of Faith, the Leaven Parable
As a Christian in the church since 2002, I never really came across this parable before and it is an odd ball to me. It is kinda like the mustard seed parable where Jesus tells His followers the kingdom of God will grow from a small tiny grain of seed and will expand it. I see this parable from a mother’s point of view, how she tries to prepare a meal for her family and stretch a small amount to feed a huge amount of people.. When people follow Jesus, He gives blessings, and when one of His followers give to help the many it expands just like leaven stretches out a little flour and makes a whole loaf of bread. Take the story of Jesus feeding the multitudes of his followers. which is all four gospels; (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:33-44, and John 6:1-14). When Jesus sees you have a desire to follow Him and your love His Spiritual words , which is Spiritual food, He blesses your efforts and the kingdom of heaven expands. In the story of the major feeding of many, Jesus turns and looks at those following Him and He is moved with compassion.
Mark 6:34 When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
Your desire is to follow the one true God, His desire increases the kingdom of God. When you show Him your desire to share spiritual bread you eat and consume with other children of God, He gives you leaven that makes a cracker into a gospel loaf of bread. Just like a loving mother who wants to feed her husband, children and may extended family like her parents or in-laws, she doesn’t have a lot of money but prepares her meal with love and the Lord blesses her effect when she prays for help and her family eat a banquet. A little boy must have loved Jesus’ words and was there Jesus just gave spiritual food and His disciple knew the people were hungry, I bet they heard stomachs making noises and babies crying. Jesus said we should feed them and they said there are too many of them and we don’t have enough money, it would take more than all over us combined. A boy with childlike faith gave his offer saying feed them what i have, Jesus took the little boy’s offering and gave thanks according to the gospel of John or a blessing according to Matthew, Mark & Luke. Jesus’ name helped the little boy’s and fed five barley loaves and two fish, and that is just men, the women and children were not counted. The feeding of more than 5,000 shows how a little effort from you and having trust and love in the Lord can increase the kingdom of Heaven. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I.
