Matthew 13:1-9 Sowing the Seed of the Gospel Parable

Matthew 13:1-9

1 That day Jesus went out of the house and was sitting by the sea. 2 And large crowds gathered to Him, so He got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd was standing on the beach. And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. 5 Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out. 8 And others fell on the good soil and yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty. 9 He who has ears, let him hear.”

It doesn’t matter if Jesus has a crowd of two or ten thousand , when He sees an opportunity to tell how the gospel is spread and how it works. The parable of the sower of seeds in the gospel Matthew, Mark and Luke, so it must be very important. Jesus tells the crowd gathered by the sea shore, that gospel is like seed. Those who plant the gospel, just simply spread it everywhere. All three gospels say the seeds fall on four types of soil. I really don’t wanna get a head of this lesson but the gospel of Luke where the parable of sowing seed is recorded as saying the soil is each person’s heart.

Luke 8:15  But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.

The sower of these seeds is not like any normal cultivator of crops, they just toss and throw the seeds everywhere. On the ground beside the road,on rocky places, places where there is hardly any shade from sunlight, some in the thick of brush where thorns are and lastly on good soil. Each of the different types of soil affect how the seed develops or as cultivators say purchase crops. The birds can see the seeds that are near the road and just fly down and eat them, yummy for the birds.  The seeds that fall on the rocky places are not covered by any soil, which is important for small young plants and it just dries up and dies. The seeds that fall in the brush of thorns, just get consumed by its surroundings. Finally the seeds that fall on good fertile soil, grow into beautiful crops so the sowers can see, His labor has paid off. Despite the seeds that fall on non-fertile soil, Jesus tells the crowd, there were hundredfold, sixty and thirty, so plenty of seeds, grew up strong and are visible for those to see, that sowers harvest will be good. Jesus tells me and you, if you truly open your heart and let your ears hear the good news of the gospel, you can be a beautiful strong crop for the Lord and ready for the harvest. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I. Samuel H.

Isaiah 28:23-25 Give ear and hear my voice, Listen and hear my words. 24 Does the farmer plow continually to plant seed? Does he continually turn and harrow the ground? 25 Does he not level its surface and sow dill and scatter cummin and plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place and rye within its area?

Mark 4: 3 "Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 "Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. 6 "And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 "Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 "Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."

Luke 8: 4 When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable: 5 "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up. 6 "Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 "Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out. 8 "Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great." As He said these things, He would call out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
