Matthew 6:9 Hallowed Be Your Name
9 “Pray, then, in this way:‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Jesus gives His followers an awesome example of how to pray to Father God, as He is in the middle of preaching the sermon on the mount. He taught us how blessed we can be if we live like His beatitudes in Matthew 5. In the verses 1 to 8 of Matthew 6, He tells us to worship lives about ourselves, but all about the Father God in heaven. So now He wants to tell us how to pray, the Lord’s prayers are 2 different Gospels of the Holy Bible, first time in Matthew 6:9-15 then in Luke 11:1-4. In the Gospel Luke 11, Jesus is asked by His followers, “ teach us how to pray, like John the Baptist pray.” First, He teaches His followers that God the Father’s name is Holy or Hallowed. What does the word Hallowed mean; according to Wikipedia hallowed “to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate. Depending on what English translation of the Holy Bible read, the word hallowed appears at different places. But the first time, is in when the Lord is speaking the meaning of the 4th Commandment;
But how can we understand what the word hallowed means, if a normal person in modern English, hardly says it, unless it is coming from a pastor during a worship service? That is easy my brothers & sisters, the Holy Bible answers & explains itself. Exodus 20:11 tells the followers of the Lord, the Sabbath day is hallowed, so like we looked for the first the word hallowed appeared in God’s word, let us look at the first the the seventh day appears in God’s word;
Genesis 2:2-3 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.
The word hallowed & holy mean the same thing, something sacred & the Lord’s name is Holy. It is important for the children of God to acknowledge the Lord at His holiness, cause He deserves respect & calling on His holy name to give salvation & He saves our lives. That is way Jesus teaches us to start our prayers life, by calling God the Father’s name Hallowed, I hope you began this holy Sabbath day, by telling the Lord, thank you for the day of rest, so that I can relax in Your love & I can build a relationship in Your holy presence. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus you & so do I. Sam H.
