James 5:1-3 The Empty Value of Being Wealthy

James 5:1-3

1 Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!

The holy word of God isn’t against His children being wealthy, not one bit but what He does dislike is that they make their wealth their master. Many Godly people of scripture were  wealthy, men like Abraham. Boaz was a wealthy man, but he used his wealth to provide for others and let them glean or pick  Boaz crops that he left for his neighbors. The Lord made King Solomon the most wealthy man to ever lived, but later wrote in writing that all his wealth was meaningless.

Ecclesiastes 2:10  Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. 11 But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.

I have witnessed many great talented actors, actresses and musicians and many of them die killing. In my lifetime I have heard many wealthy celebrities who committed suicide. I remember when I heard  Kurt Cobain killed himself but wasn’t surprised, cause he sounded depressed or pissed off when talk and his lyric was full of anger. When Robin Williams killed himself, many people were surprised.  He is a very funny comedian and actor, and it wasn’t just reading lines for a movie screen. Robin Williams has a famous quote about being very wealthy and drug use, that will make oneself feel high and escape the trouble of the stress world .

Cocaine is God’s way of saying that you’re making too much money. Robin Williams

The love of money and wealth is a horrible master to have to rule your life, the wisdom of King Solomon, wrote that once you have wealth, you will desire more of it. Plus nothing helps a person gain more friends to help you spend your wealth.

Ecclesiastes 5:10  One who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor one who loves abundance with its income. This too is futility. 11 When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look at them?

Many times in my life, I have tried to win money by playing a lottery and say to  hey God if I  win the lottery I will give so much to the church. I promise to God to drive to church in my new Lamborghini and put a million dollars in the offering plate. It never happens and I am very grateful, I have learned my treasure  in the everlasting love I get from God and He has so much more wealth in store for me in the kingdom of heaven that none of gold and silver could ever purchase. God bless you all, Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel Head.

2 Corinthians 8:9  For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.
