Parable of the Faithful Servant
To be a loving servant of the Lord Jesus, one must be a loving servant to others. Jesus is not visible on the earth, but when me and you say we are Christian, the way we live is how people see Jesus in us. The Parable of the faithful servant of Jesus teaches us what is expected of servants. Now when it comes to most loyalty of God in the Bible I can only think of one, Joseph the son of Jacob and Rachel.
Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son and that made him hated by his brother, they betrayed him and sold him into slavery and told his father he was dead. As a slave of Egypt Joseph remained a faithful servant of God and can keep the commandments of God. Even as a slave, Joseph’s master Potiphar, could see that his labor was very successful, so he made Joseph his personal servant. The word of God says Joseph was a very handsome man, and Potiphar’s try to seduce him. Joseph wanted to honor His God and also his master Potiphar and he refused to give into the woman’s adulterous desires.
Now I don’t know what Potiphar’s wife looks like, but I can imagine a man of power like him did have somewhat of a trophy wife. A beautiful woman doesn’t like to be refused, as if she doesn’t feel attractive anymore, so if she couldn’t get what she wanted, she would make Joseph suffer. She had faked a story that he took advantage of her and was placed in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Even in jail Joseph remained a good servant of God and the chief jailer, he put Joseph in charge of duties while he served his time for a crime he never did.
As servants of the Lord God, can we be a good servant to others even in uncomfortable situations. Joseph could very well say, what the hell, I am a slave in Egypt, my family betrayed me, I have no love life, I really don’t have my own home, and I am a long way from home. Joseph did end up all of the things, God bless him everywhere he went as a slave of Egypt to a man who was highly honored by the Pharaoh and role of major authority with even the king of Egypt asking for Joseph’s permission first. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel H
