8 “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.
Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. 2 By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
The seventh day was made holy at the end of creation, because God the Creator was finished with all that had to be done and rested. Was God tired, of course not, He was just done, just the day before the scripture He looked at creation and saw it was very good, so He knew nothing more had to be done.
Back to the major debate, is it a Jewish or Christian Sabbath. Adam and Eve were living in the garden of Eden when the seventh day was made holy, but they were not called Jewish or Christian. The word Jew means Hebrew someone from Israel but who was the first person given the name Israel?
Genesis 32:26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 So he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 He said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have striven with God and with men and have prevailed.”
The timeline between Adam and Jacob is about 2255 years, so let’s ask ourselves, if people really didn’t call themselves a Jew or Israelite until the Lord gave Jacob that name, how can the seventh Sabbath day be a Jewish’s Sabbath? Any time a person has a question for the Lord to answer, it is a holy word. Jesus the Son of God told His followers who the Sabbath day was made for the gospels and it clearly there for every Christian to see and read.
Jesus says the Sabbath was made for man, He didn’t say Jew or Christian, and who is man according to scripture?
The seventh day Sabbath was made holy by God because He saw the universe He created and said it was good, it’s like an artist’s signature on his or her masterpiece. Anything God calls holy stays holy and for another day to be the Sabbath, creation would have to be destroyed and another day would have to be made holy, has anyone seen that happen since God said let there be light? It is truly a blessing to remember God’s holy day and resting to get to know Him more and more. Spending time together is what the Lord wants, and the Sabbath day worship is more than a few hours at church, it is an all day event. If you want to know more about the Lord’s Sabbath ask me and we can have a Bible study. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I. Sam H.
9 For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this passage, “They shall not enter My rest.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 He again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.”8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
