Exodus 20:1-3 The God of His Commandments, Is the God of Freedom

The Egyptian kindly let Israel come to their land, because they knew famine was gonna happen, because God fearing Hebrew name Joseph foretold and told them how to prepare. The Hebrews were grateful for the early Egyptian’s hospitality and did labor for them for the food they ate. But the Hebrews obeyed the words from Genesis 1:28 and were fruit and “Be fruitful and multiply,”. So the hospitality of Egypt became a oppression to the Hebrew people. So they called out to God, please rescue us, and like God that is good, He heard them and answered them, because the Lord always keeps His covenant promise.

Exodus 2:24 So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 25 God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them.

When the Lord delivers the first and greatest commandment, He reminds them, I am the Lord your God, I have freed you from a powerful enemy you couldn’t fight and now I offer you freedom. Therefore He says,You shall have no other gods but Me. The ancient Egyptians had a god, his name was Ra, he was their god for the sun. Many ancient civilizations worshiper a sun god of some kind, because they looked at the sun as giver of life, So it must have really destroyed the Egyptian’s faith in Ra, when the Lord Almighty made the light of sun go dark for three day.

Exodus 10:21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. 23 They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings.

The power of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh may not exist anymore, but the Lord is still God and He always will be. Just as He was Savior to Israel and free them from slavery and oppression , He did it all mankind .

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,

My dearly beloved, many people may see the commandments of God as restriction, of a list of do’s and don’t. But there is true freedom only having the Lord as our God. The ancient Egyptian, try to make themselves with worldly wealth. Beautiful shiny gold jewelry , lovely paint to try to enhance the bodies God gave them  and they used the labor of slaves to build their pyramids. But all that is empty and meaningless, the true meaning of life is to serve God and Him alone. I know I want to make Him my one and only God, so that I can find freedom in His love. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I. Sam H.
