Psalm22:23 God of Jacob and You

Psalm 22:23

You who fear the Lord, praise him!    All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him,    and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!

Who is the offspring of Israel and Jacob or is that one and the same? Many modern day Christians say the Old Testament and teachings of it are only for the Jews, but is that true? One of Jesus’ titles was and is King of the Jews,  Pilate asked Jesus if He was King of the Jews and Jesus did not deny it.

Mark 15:2 Pilate questioned Him: “So You are the King of the Jews?” And He answered him, “It is as you say.”

So how does this relate to Psalm 22 as being the messianic prophetic psalm of Christ’s suffering? If Jesus was sent to the world to save people from their sins, and If Jesus was dying and paying the penalty for the  disobedience of sinners, is Psalm 22:23 telling only Jews or Christians to fear and praise the Lord? The word of God always answers the questions, and the more we take our daily bread the more who Jesus is King of. The name Israel didn’t exist in the beginning of the Bible, the only separate the people of the world into two different groups before the name Israel is given to Jacob.

Genesis 32:28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have contended with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

So how is mankind divided before Genesis 32:28, in Genesis 6, God is already unhappy with mankind not long after He made man and woman in Genesis 1:26-27. A separation had begun mankind   were either sons of God or sons of man and the Bible says they did basically whatever they wanted to.

Genesis 6:1  Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Who exactly is the sons of God and sons of man, how does this relate to being an offspring of Jacob and Israel? Majority of bible scholars have accepted Psalm 22 as a prophetic prediction of Christ’s suffering that provides salvation for all who accept Him as the Savior and Lord all who believe in Him, that is what John 3:16 says. So how does one become a child of God.

1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and follow His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

I don’t know about you brothers and sisters, but it seems to me that the God of the Old Testament might be the same as the New Testament. If Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, and He is King of the Jews, King of Kings, who exactly is the offspring of Jacob and Israel? The answer is in Psalm 22:23 but more clear in another English Bible translation.

Psalm 22:23  (AMP) You who fear the Lord [with awe-inspired reverence], praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor Him. Fear Him [with submissive wonder], all you descendants of Israel.

To fear is to show reverence, to praise is admiration like to tell someone you love them and want their approval. Submissive wonder, that means do what the person you pay reverence and the one you admire and want their approval. How does one say I love you Jesus and want to allow you to be the King of my heart, I want to say thank you for dying for my sins, what can I do for you Jesus, Please tell me. He tells the modern followers of God, He told the ancient, if you love Me listen to My word, My instructions, My instruction, My laws and My commandments.

Exodus 20:6 but showing favor to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.

Ask yourself something today, brothers and sisters, is the God of Jacob your, do you accept Jesus as Lord and the gift of salvation that His death and resurrection gave to those who love love and believe in Him, say amen if you do. God bless you, Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel J Head

Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is [a]neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you [b]belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.
