Psalm 22:19 Come Quickly Lord
But You, O Lord, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me!
As I reflect on the beautiful lyrics of the King David song that Psalm 22 is , I can only say I want to be more like Jesus. The prophetic view of Christ suffering on the cross, for disobedience He didn’t do, but I did and have done many times, all that He asks is for God to be near. Anyone that spends enough time in the word of God and gets to know Him more, will learn it is in Him that only anyone can trust. A person born with human sinful flesh, will betray you somehow. When Jesus was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane, His followers were kind of shocked. Peter pulled out his sword to try and defend Jesus, the man he called, Lord and but later in the gospel. Peter was probably very serious in his heart when he told Jesus that he was ready to go to prison and death before he would betray Jesus, but Jesus knew Peter’s heart better than Peter did.
Peter with all his heart loved Jesus, the man he called Lord and even jumped to defend Him with his sword out and cut off one of the arresting guard’s eyes. Jesus unlike many people today respected the life of His friends and enemies, He lifted the ear of the guard and healed it back in place and told Peter to put your sword away. Who knows what through the thoughts Peter and the guard, did Jesus really say to respect some authority that is arresting the Lord and Savior and not put up a fight or protest.
John 18:11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, am I not to drink it?”
As scripture tells us that Peter did deny Jesus three times , and when he did the third time it was Jesus, his friend looking at him, that made Peter run away crying.
Luke 22:60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about!” And immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 And then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.
Rightfully so Jesus the Son of God at the cross, ask His Father God do not be far from Me. From the time of His arrest, His trial, and crucifixion, He had very little support from His disciples, most of them had run away, because of fear of their own lives. The word of God tells us there were people who followed Jesus and were concerned, most of them were women.
John 19:25 Now beside the cross of Jesus stood His mother, His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 So when Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own household
We should all be like Jesus, put all our trust in God the Father, at all times and first and foremost. If you were asked today, who will you put all your faith and belief in? Our family and friends will betray us and we will even betray ourselves. Unlike our family, friends and ourselves we will pass away someday, but God life is forever and everlasting, we can always depend on and ask Him to be near all time and forever. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel H.
