Psalm 22:18 Prosperity Gospel and Jesus’ Poverty

Psalm 22:18

They divide my garments among them, and they cast lots for my clothing.

There is a dispute among the Jews and Christians as to, is Psalm 22 prophecy about Jesus as the Messiah, and if He was did the Jews really kill the Son of God at the cross. Judaism accepts the Old Testament books as the word of God, but by no means is the New Testament any holy scripture of God. The Holy Bible isn’t the only historical writing the world has that Jesus did exist and that He was the Messiah. If you are a Christian I suggest you read Antiquities of the Jews which is known as Josephus’ Works. I have used  Flavius Josephus’ writing before in my devotional blogs, he  has some amazing writing that adds to God’s word. Josephus lived between  around 93–94 AD, and he just liked to write down Jewish history and the things that happened around him. Thank God for His holy scripture, but for some reason Josephus recorded the events during his lifetime. Josephus made two statements about Jesus that are found in his book. He plainly said that Jesus was the Messiah and a great teacher and that he was  crucified by Pontius Pilate. The following I will share are Josephus writings word for word; 

 “ Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as to receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross,^[ those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct to this day.”

One of Jesus’ titles is King of Kings, but He was born like  a king and didn’t die like a king. If anyone  studies and read the word of God, and follows the birth, life and death of Jesus, will see that He didn’t have a life of any kind of financial prosperity. Jesus wasn’t born in the king’s palace, hospital, hotel or even in a house. Jesus was born in a manger because there were no rooms available at the hotels of  Bethlehem, so by default Mary gave birth to Jesus the Savior of the world, in a place where animals were kept.

Luke 2:7  And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

If Jesus had any prosperity it wasn’t in financial, He grew up in His Joseph and Mary . At the age of 30 Jesus began to teach, preach,  heal and spread the gospel. If Jesus had a home, it was while He was with Mary His mother. When He was walking around Israel, He would relay His followers hospitality to give a place to sleep or food to eat.

Luke 9:58  And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.

When the soldiers stripped Jesus of His garments and played dice over them, they took all of His worldly possessions. Therefore He was born naked, and died naked, had no home to sleep when he was born and no real home of His own when He died. The word of God says Jesus gave up His prosperity and became poor and by His grace, we can become very wealthy in the  prosperity of His love. Do you wanna be rich today and forevermore, ask Jesus into your hearts, tell Him you are poor in spirit and if He sees you are serious and real, you will be more wealthy  and rich then you can ever imagine.
