Proverbs 5:7-14 Stairway To Hell
On November 5, 1970, the England rock group Led Zeppelin release a B-side song named, “ “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do ‘ Many people may wonder why I am talking about a rock n roll song secular song, that doesn’t praise God at all. Led Zeppelin was known for their wild parties and maybe the only song close to scripture related was “ Stairway to Heaven”. My brother in Christ, Rob told me sometimes secular movies, tv shows, and songs can explain scripture very well. The lyric of “Hey, Hey, What Can I Do,” tell Christians, to stay away from an adulterous woman. Verse 14 of Proverbs 5 says the trap of adultery will ruin a person that is among an assembly and congregation, the NIV Bible says assembly of God. According to the song, a man find a girl very attractive and want to make her his woman, cause he is in love with her wonderful beauty; ‘ Want to tell you about the girl I love, My she looks so fine, She’s the only one that I been dreamin’ of Maybe someday she will be all mine I want to tell her that I love her so I thrill with her every touch, I need to tell her she’s the only one I really love, ‘ Funny how this man knows this beautiful girl, they both go to the same church. I go to church and most ladies in the are often married, so if there is a single lady, most single men will try to get to know her better. In the next part of the song that a lot of men are at the church to praise the Lord, and the girl is so fine. But that very day at sunset when most people are with their loved ones, that very fine church girl is on a street corner. ’ Sunday morning when we go down to the church, See the menfolk standin’ inline, I said they come to pray to the Lord, With my little girl, looks so fine, In the evening when the sun is sinkin’ low. Everybody’s with the one they love, I walk the town, keep a-searchin’ all around, Lookin’ for my street corner girl ‘. Now the man in this song can see the girl has many lovers and can’t stay true to any. She likes to go to bars and get drunk and she has men chasing her all the time. The churchman has wanted a relationship with this fine-looking woman but he knows she isn’t the faithful girl and doesn’t want to share her with many lovers. So he gives up chasing her and moves on. I remember when I was in high school and they began to teach the student, sex education. One thing they taught a lot, trying to teach safe sex rather than abstinence, each time you have sex with a person, you are basically having sex with every partner they had. So whatever your lover’s lover had, you will have it also. Verse 11 of Proverb 5 comes to play with this kind of behavior and lifestyle, the person can and will become corrupt with sickness. People of the same church, even if they say nothing, most like how someone behaves and lives. Sickness isn’t a very pleasant thing to experience, and a broken heart isn’t nice either, but destroying your honor and the reputation among your church family, can truly destroy someone’s body and soul. So remember the laws of God, and the wisdom Solomon is teaching the children of God. Don’t commit adultery, it leads to a whole world of mess. God bless you and the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I.
