Proverbs 10:9 Walk Away From Hurt
One who walks in integrity walks securely, But one who perverts his ways will be found out.
Great men and women of the Bible had great relationships and walk with God, but they all slipped a few times or many. But a great man and woman of strong faith never really walk away from God. In my teen years I solid rock n roll music fan, as I got older my taste for music went to the Beatles, George Jones, and Johnny Cash. Little did I know Johnny Cash was a man of faith and has plenty of songs that give praise to Jesus and have spiritual messages. His walk with the Lord is a lot like father Abraham, King David, or Jonah, he thinks his own way sometimes. Johnny Cash grew up in a Christian home and as the holy word says, if a child is taught at an early age, he or she will return to the faith.
Like so many humble children of God, when Johnny Cash’s talent was like so much by many, his fame grew, and with it, and more money and many temptations. As a famous music performer, more and more wanted to hear his music so he used drugs to help him sleep and stay awake. Any pill or medicine a person puts in their system can and will become a dependent. He started to suffer from depression so he started drinking alcohol became a way to deal make the sadness go away. He only wore black clothes and call himself the man in black for many reasons, but one reason because He said felt sad for the people of the world who never read or hear the words Jesus said. Johnny had become like Hank William Sr. who sings, “ I Saw the Light’ but wasn’t listen to the light of wisdom in God’s word. When met June Carter who was a performing artist, the same night at the Grand Ole Opry, he fell in love with her but she was married. Her marriage failed and she and Johnny tied the knot. June Carter Cash had a strong faith in God and wasn’t going to tolerate Johnny’s drug or alcohol addiction. She knew he loved her, so she told him, you walk the line as you sing about or I walk away. He had lost his walk with God, cause he stops going to church, cause fans to learn where he attends, and disrupt worship service. He went to the Lord in prayer on his knee and ask Jesus for forgiveness and help. In 20o2 Johnny releases a cover song, “ Hurt” that was written and performed by Nine Inch Nail. NIN is an industrial loud and very fast rock band and the frontman and songwriter allow Johnny to record his song but was wonder what would the song sound like. Trent Reznor wrote the song about self-harm, that comes from heroin addiction, and it kind of sounds like a suicide note. Johnny Cash saw God’s message in Trent Reznor’s song, who doesn’t really believe in God.
1 Corinthians 15:31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily
Just like Johnny Cash wore black to protest many different was of oppression, he realizes he needs to protest himself, he needs to kill his self-destructive life and let the love of God, heal him and give him a whole new better life. I know I need to die to myself more and more so that I can live more and more by the wisdom in God’s holy word. God bless you all, Jesus the Healer of souls loves you and so do I, Samuel H
