Proverbs 10:27 Have Fear and Live
The fear of the Lord prolongs life, But the years of the wicked will be shortened.
Proverbs chapter 10 is wise instruction and separates the godly from the wicked, the wise from the foolish. The godly know when God made, He meant for them to have long happy lives, but foolish behavior disrupts that. The human mind’s spirit feels immortal, and the body begins to age, even as a newborn infant. Medical science tries to prolong life, and even if can’t, doctors, nurses, and pharmacist try to make life healthier. Even without aging, illnesses exist globally, such as cancer and diabetes, the wickedness of other people will shorten anyone’s life. The fear of the Lord prolongs life; being wicked shorten it. The greatest fear all living beings have is death, but the word fear in Proverbs 10:27 isn’t about being afraid but means to reverences or in awe and honor and respect God cause He is the maker of everything. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; (Psalm 111:10, Proverbs 1:7, and Proverbs 9:10 ), but this fear removes the fear of death. Fear in God is the acknowledgment. He guides and walks with you and me; he protects us from the evils of the dark world, even from the evil temptations from ourselves.
In my Bible studies, and since the English language has different or diverse cultures, I used different English versions or translations to a better feel for the scripture and how the Holy Spirit used someone to explain it in the same way but differently.
Proverbs 10:27 The Message (MSG) The Fear-of-God expands your life; a wicked life is a puny life.
I pick the new Passion translation and the Message Bible; both are paraphrased versions of God’s word. More thought for thought feels rather than the word-for-word versions like the KJV, NKJV, and NASB, but I like how they add passion to what Proverbs is telling the children of God and the foolish non-believer. Please fear God and trust He will prolong life; if you are stupid and wicked, your life will be puny and very sad cause you will fear death.
