Matthew 7:1-6 Don’t Let Anyone Think You Protest Too Much
Matthew Chapter 7 verses 1 & 2 in the Holy Bible, is probably a favorite for atheists, people who believe in God but only know those Bible passages, or people who don’t wanna tell they are doing something the word of God is against. I myself have been told I used words that are too harsh, in my writings & maybe I do, especially when I say a worrying Christian is a hypocrite. But I myself have worried in the past & maybe will in the future. What does Jesus want His followers to do, in our walk of with Him to live and teach others of how to be blessed by living like Him. A Christian is allowed to tell someone if he/she is living right or wrong, John the Baptist did such a thing & was arrested for it and eventually & executed for it.
Mark 6:18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”
Luke 9:9 Herod said, “I myself had John beheaded; but who is this man about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see Him.
The best way to understand scripture is with scripture, verses 3 to 6 explains what Jesus is saying in verses 1 & 2. Simply saying do condemn someone of sin you are guilty of yourself. That is what Jesus means by saying why talk about speck in someone’s eye & you have to log in your own. It would be like saying why do you have a toothpick in your eye when I have a forest of my own. There is famous line from William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet “The lady doth protest too much, methinks,” this is spoken by Queen Gertrude in response to the insincere overacting of a character in the play within a play created by Prince Hamlet to prove his uncle’s guilt in the murder of his father, the King of Denmark. Matthew 7:1-5, if you or I point fingers at anyone of any sins we don’t like , we open up a magnifying glass on ourselves, the world will look at the skeletons of our closet. If anything is found & most of the time there is, the guilt on ourselves will me 10 times more, cause we are pretending to be holy when we aren’t. Verse 6 says if anything is found against me & you, it is open season on the Christian who is really a hypocrite. I have had it happen to me many times, it made me wanna work on myself more before passing judgement on anyone. I can get prideful sometimes & point my make believe holy fingers at others. I always remember if I point my finger at someone, I will have 4 fingers pointing back at me. If you or I wanna reach lost people who need Jesus like me & you, we need to show love & not be harsh, Jesus took us from where we were & we are still growing in His love & compassion. The holy word of God says will continue to grow until the day Jesus returns, so we really have no right to judge anyone. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you & so do I. Sam H.
