Matthew 6:25-26 Beatitudes of Birds
Matthew 6:25-26 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Jesus is conforming what scripture has always said in His Sermon on the Mount to be content & trust that the Lord will provide. Especially when we love God & please Him with a willing sacrifice of our worship. Father Abraham was willing to give the Lord, the worship God demanded, & not only Abraham but his son who God gave to him in old age. God had asked Abraham to give up his son (Genesis 22), Abraham had a heavy heart but he did what his God asked him to do. As Abraham tied his son up & was about to give up his Issac, the Lord provided another sacrifice. So grateful, that the God Abraham loved & more thankful cause God provide another sacrifice for worship, Abraham gave God a new name that mean;
Genesis 22:14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
Sometimes I laugh at my mother when she complains about when a bird builds a nest on the house & asks to sweep it away. Sometimes I am amazed at what I find in a bird’s nest. It is normal to see sticks & leaves, but once I saw the plastic that holds a six pack of soda or beer together. Jesus tells His followers, the Lord provides for birds of the air & those that don’t fly. The Lord covers them with beautiful feathers, some birds feathers so wonderful, that some like a peacock like to put them on a display. Jesus is telling His followers at the mount, don’t worry about your life, don’t worry about clothes or food. The Lord who was Yahweh-Yireh, for father Abraham, still provides for you. The birds of sky & ground don’t work, they live, fly, build nests , reproduce & feed their young. If a bird can make uses of something like a piece of plastic that a trash litter threw away. The Lord God can provide for me & you, just do like the old hymn says, “Trust & Obey.” God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you & so do I. Sam H.
