Matthew 5:20 The Beatitude of Exceeding Perfection
The Sermon on the Mount is called the greatest sermon ever preached, cause Jesus is speaking to a regular everyday person, who desires a true relationship with God & wants to know Him more. Jesus the Messiah was dressed like a congregation, & the followers who were listening teaching them over & over, you are blessed. When Jesus told them, “Unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes & Pharisees,’ I can imagine, the man & women there looked at each other & said, ‘How is that possible?” Jesus knew the heart of the Pharisees & most of them were hypocrites, they were students & teachers of God’s law, but didn’t practice it. To the Pharisees the Law of God was like requirements for a members only club, but to God the Law was about Love, if God’s people treat each the way he or she wants to be treated, the Law of God was practiced. The Lord really doesn’t demand much from us in keeping Law, design within the 10 commandments, the first 4 are ways to honor & respect God, the last 6 are about our relationship to each other, but all 10 commandments are 100% about love & nothing else.
Having a lot of knowledge & wisdom can make a person feel cocky & I am guilty of it sometimes, I need the Lord to show me that I am just like everyone else. But the Pharisees were taught by another Pharisees he was special, because he was an expert of God’s Law, he was perfect. Even with all the knowledge a Pharisees has of the Word of God, he somehow missed everyone who hated someone once in a while.
Ecclesiastes 7:22 For many times, also, your own heart has knownThat even you have cursed others.
So how does a person exceed the righteousness of a teacher & preacher of God’s Holy Law, He or show my exceeding with God’s love & not only love within a familiar circle. The Lord loves every person He creates & He asks the same thing for me & you, who when we become a Christian, we also love a created man, woman, child & every race of people, even if they are different religion, or gender. The Law of God was designed so His children could love one another & have peace & harmony, but when some thinks he or she is better than anyone, they have too much love for themselves to share with anyone. Therefore if you love others you exceed the righteousness of a student of the Law, cause they don’t practice it, from their totally evil heart. We are to love thousands & thousands of others. like the Lord & show all His creation mercy. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you, & I love you also. Happy Sabbath. Sam H.
Romans 13:9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
