Matthew 5:13 Is Your Life Seasoned With Salt or Is it Dull?

Matthew 5:13 Is Your Life Seasoned With Salt or Is it Dull?

Matthew 5:13

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.

The beatitudes stop at verse 12 & Jesus has stopped saying blessed, but it doesn’t mean the blessing of following Jesus & listening to His teaching has stopped. He continues the sermon on the mount & He tells the congregation, you are the salt of the earth. He is telling His followers, if you obey by words, your life is seasoned & it is also preserved. In the modern world salt is mostly extra seasoning  to enhance the taste of food. In the ancient world salt was used to preserve food, mostly meat & fish, since there was no way to keep food preserved like a refrigeration unit. Jesus was telling His followers then & telling us now, we are the salt of the earth. If we are true to His word, our lives are a major preservation to those around us. Our lives also have seasoning, that without Jesus in it, it would be majorly dull. People who are not Christian may think, the life of a Jesus freak is boring. Because they say Christians can’t have good time at wild parties, get drunk or get high, have casual sex with random partners, or simply get a extra sleep rather then gathering with other believers & having church service. I remember my days when I wasn’t Christian, & I was living that way. Those times in between wild parties, & getting stone & chasing women, was very few & sometimes, something regrettable would happen. So looking back on my life back then, it was dull, like a worn out axe, that it took someone to work harder to cut down a tree. King Solomon told us in his writing, if an axe is dull, it takes more strength to do a job, that a tool is suppose to make it easier.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of giving success.

Do you think living a life where you have to work harder to provide for your own blessing , cause you don’t trust God to provide you blessings, is a life full of extra seasoning.  That is like the world in its current situation. The world isn’t providing any blessings, COVID-19 is limiting some people from their jobs, the movie theater & event sports. Some people are unhappy with the justice system & demand equal justice. So complaining is all around from those people salt has lost taste. The followers of God’s word, don’t put trust in man or think the government or a place of employment will alway be a way of preserving a seasoning to life.  If it is by God’s hand that he created the mineral of salt & He created the life of you & me, He can also provide a better taste of life for those you live by His words & live by His word. Just use your eyes & ears, brothers & sisters, the followers of Christ, are relaxing in season life, & the others who are not, are complaining almost demanding I want more seasoning in my life, cause the taste if down right boring & dull, but so is the taste of pacifier. God bless you all, let your life be seasoned by the salt of sermon on the mount, which the Christian world calls the greatest sermon ever preached. Because it makes good sense then & it still does today. The Lord Jesus loves you & so do I. Sam H.

Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the Lord,“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength,And whose heart turns away from the Lord. 6“For he will be like a bush in the desert And will not see when prosperity comes, But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness, A land of salt without inhabitant.7“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord.
