Matthew 22:11-14 Dressed For the Kingdom of Heaven
It is out of respect when a person is invited to a wedding, they should dress formally. People often dress properly for special events and occasions. Once I saw a judge remove someone from court cause he wasn’t dressed formally, the judge said, “ If you have a date to come to my court, you dress well for it otherwise today you have failure to appear and will be penalized.” Since we know there is a wedding date plain and coming. There is usually a first date that happens before someone asks,” Will you marry me?. ” I bet the guy was well dressed when he met his date family and wanted to be seen as a presentable man and wanted to impress her father and mother, so maybe he would thank you for allowing me to take out your precious daughter. Now this kind of practice wasn’t normal in times scripture was written but it is very common practice in modern society. People who attend church do dress more formally than most times of the week and many don’t ask why they just do, but the word of God might give a hint where this tradition starts.
Exodus 19:10 The Lord also said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; 11 and let them be ready for the third day, for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
Hearing God’s commandments to the Israelites was time or worship and the Lord wanted to be respected, because His is holy and good and His commandments are holy and good. To be holy means to set apart.
Leviticus 20:26 Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the Lord am holy; and I have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine.
So is it too much to ask to look set apart for a wedding and church service, of course outside a wedding a lady in a bride’s gown might look odd and likewise the same for the bride, groom and even those attending the event be dressed casually. How does this relate to the kingdom of heaven, Christian will attend a wedding one day. When Jesus comes to take His lovely bride and all the church members to a wedding party in God’s most holy temple, we will be dressed in new clothing.
Revelation 6:11 Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
Those at the great wedding in the kingdom of God, will have already been dressed by the Spirit of God, and It will have to take a surrender of self and ask Jesus to transform you and I away from a pattern of old self into a pattern of new self. Much like the parable on wine and new garments told about in says.
Matthew 9:16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
On the day a man or woman gives themself away to the Lord and is saved by Jesus name , he and she are being prepared for a wedding day. Unlike this Bible passage in Matthew 22:11-14, those who are not wearing wedding garments will not be at the great wedding feast or be kicked out and cast out into a place of darkness, they just won’t enter God’s kingdom. That person never took God’s invitation to the Holy Bible and read the dress code needed in the kingdom of heaven. God bless you all, the Bridegroom loves you and so do I. Samuel J Head
