Luke 5:36-39 The Best Wine and Garment Parable

This is the subject of the first Bible study I went to, when I was invited to as a newcomer to the Lord’s church. As was very puzzled the subject of new and old wine, but very familiar with new patches, on rip clothes. As American Boy Scout I know a little about putting on patches, and I learned that old material wouldn’t last very long, therefore I had to buy a new patch so the whole garment of clothing was durable. The Idea of wineskins was new to me,  I had hardly any knowledge of the ancient world, but I learned mankind hasn’t always kept wine or many drinking fluids in glasses. Wine was put into sacks made of animal’s skin, and after a while, the sack would get old and the wine wouldn’t taste as fresh and fruity.  So any lover of wine, would get new wine, most of the time it was placed in new sacks, cause new wine is heavier new old, and it would cause the former skin to burst up and no likes fresh wine abuse. When a new believer comes to Christ, is the example of taking off the old and replacing it with new garments and fresh new wine, everything that the old sinner was with his or her surrender to Christ becomes brand new.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

I think it is pretty neat this parable is concerned with Jesus’ first parable. His first miracle is at a wedding, recorded in the Gospel of John chapter 2. All over the Old Testament, blood is required for the forgiveness of sin, in a sacrifice ceremony.

Hebrews 9:22  And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

At the wedding ceremony, the wine supply ran out, and Jesus’ mother asked to do something about it, maybe she wanted her Son to do a party favor, Jesus said it wasn’t to reveal Himself, but He honored His mother like the fifth commandment says.

John 2:7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.

When the new wine was passed around, that was formerly water, and when the head host tasted Jesus’s wine, he had a take back, probably said,” That is good wine, the best I ever had,” and he declared out loud at the wedding party.

John 2:9-10  When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”

Jesus’s best blood is the wine  that saves mankind from all it sins, it wipes all the animal’s scientific blood of the old covenant . God the Father gave His only begotten Son, so His  blood the best wine, would give forgiveness. So that all who accept the blood Christ, could take part in the wedding ceremony when Christ comes to take His bride to a feast where all God’s children can taste very good wine. God bless you all, may the Lord bless. Love Samuel H
