John 1:38-42 Teach Me Who I Am

John 1:38-42

38 And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They said to Him, “Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So, they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, the son of John; you shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, Peter).

Jesus took His two new followers back to His mother’s house, the place Joseph, His earthly father, had built. He told them things they had never heard before, proving that He is genuinely a Rabbi, sent from God. They spent the day there and the next day, Andrew, wanted to tell his brother Simon Peter the good news. We have found the Messiah! The word Messiah is not really a title anyone would label another as, especially a Jew, like Andrew, so he must have had a lot of confidence. Of course, Andrew did. He heard John the Baptist call Jesus the Lamb of God, who comes to take away the sins of the world, and then Andrew followed Jesus’ home to hear Him teach. Only with solid confidence will someone believe that you have found the Messiah. Even as I call myself a teacher of God’s word, I slip many times. My relationship with the Lord is solid, but my actions are not so. Messiah means anointed Son of God and King of kings. Andrew loved his brother Simon, so he would not mislead his brother. A good, loving family loves to share the good news. So, Simon followed Andrew to meet Jesus, and Jesus knew who Simon was, without Simon introducing himself. I know your father’s name is John, and your name is Simon, but the name on your heart is Cephas, which means your faith is solid as a rock. When a person truly meets the Messiah, and by the authority the Son of God has, He will tell you who you really are, and your life will never be the same. Of course, Simon Peter slipped many times, but he always continued to the Lord’s will with the solid rock faith he had for the Messiah. If you are wondering who you are, give yourself to the Lord. He will lead you to the life He meant for you to live. God bless you all; the Messiah loves you, and so do I. His bondservant, Samuel Head.

Matthew 16:16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”
