John 1:18 God Fulfill Himself In Jesus
The followers of God in the Old Testament times almost needed more faith than those after the birth of Christ, and the New Testament was more available. Of course, they had God’s word, but it was more heard and less read. The technology of papers held together in a binding form did not exist. Most books were rolled-up scrolls. Before the invention of the printing press, books were written out by hand. So, putting together the whole Bible in a binding book form did not happen. In Old and even early New Testament times, God’s word was heard at worship services. Mom and dad would teach their children God’s word. So, if a generation of people needed faith, it was those who did not have physical Bibles in their houses, as many of us do. All four gospels are eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ earthly ministry, and the gospel, according to John, is one of them. The Gospel of John does not have Christ’s birth in it like Matthew or Luke, but from the beginning of it, it clearly says Jesus is Immanuel (God with us).
John 1:1, In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.~John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Only a few people in the Old Testament saw God; Adam and Eve did, but when they sinned, they ran away to hide from Him (Genesis 3:8-10). Moses asked to see God’s face, and the Lord replied, if you see Me, Moses, you will die because your sinful flesh cannot withstand My glory, (Exodus 33:18-23). The prophet Isaiah found himself in the temple of the Lord, but the angels of God hid His face with their wings, and even in God’s presence, he was fearful for his life because he was from unclean people (Isaiah 6:1-6). So do the generation of people who lived after the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ need less faith than Old Testament believers? “Time Enough at Last” is one of the most famous episodes of Twilight Zone, and it aired in January 1959. The episode was about a man named Henry Bemis, an avid book lover. Henry loves to read books so much he does it while at work, and his boss gets annoyed by it.
Henry reads at home, and his wife nags him about his obsession with reading. His wife gets so angry she destroys Henry’s collection of books. The next day at Henry’s work, a bomb explodes, and the world is now in a post-apocalyptic state. Henry finds himself the only surviving human in the world. He walks to a nearby library, goes through the rubble of books, and is overly excited. This is heaven for Henry, and he has all the beautiful books of the world available to him. Henry’s wife is dead, and she can no longer nag at him, asking for his time with her. He no longer has a job or a boss to stop him from reading. Henry now has all the time to read all he wants. Suddenly, Henry’s glasses fall off his face, and they break, and suddenly, Henry’s heaven is now hell. All the fabulous books of literature, and all the time in the world, are available to Henry, but without his glasses, he cannot read one word of it. Jesus is Immanuel (God, with us), the word of God, the Holy Bible, in living human flesh. Jesus did everything written in Old Testament and quoted from it many times. He not only loved and preached to the Jews but to Roman soldiers and Samaritan women; he healed non-Jewish people and paid the price for all mankind’s sins, and with His last words, He asked His Father to forgive us all because we were foolish to realize, we were killing our Creator. When Jesus said In Matthew 5:17-18, think not I destroy or abolish the Law or the Prophets, or make one jot or tittle of God’s word will pass away, but to fulfill it. If Jesus’ birth, death on the cross, or even His resurrection, was to abolish any of God’s Father’s word, we would be like Henry Bemis’ dream finally come true, having all the time in the world to look at it, but have no way, whatsoever to read and understand it. Dear friends, Christians are so lost in their relationship with the Father. The Bible is available to many people but collects more dust than it reads. So many Christians believe and teach half of God’s word is no longer valid but completely abolished. That simply is not true; the God of the Old Testament is still Lord of the New Testament, and Jesus is only God fulfilling Himself in a visible form (God with Us) between both Testaments.
