James 3:5-6 A War of Words
I watched an educational program years ago on how easy a forest fire can start. One way was by a little droplet of water on the leaves and sunlight shining, which would magnify the sun rays’ heat and the leaves would start to smoke and burn. Even if we don’t live near a forest we all know of recent forest fires all over the world. The country of Australia has horrible bush fires repeatedly, 46 million acres were burned and billions of wildlife were killed between 2019-2019 just by bushfires in the country alone. To really understand how much damage the tongue can cause, go study the 1938 radio show “The War of the Worlds” and the chaos it causes. It was Halloween night and Orson Welles was about to read a story called “The War of the Worlds” on the radio airways. Before Orson began the story an announcement was given he was only reading a fictional story of an alien invasion from Mars. The radio show started out like the national news broadcast telling folks we don’t know what is going on, but it looks like Martian’s spacecraft are really hurting and killing humans. In the time before movie screens and television, radio stations would do anything to make a fictional show sound as real as possible. So when people tone in the radio show a little. They really thought the earth was being invaded and Martians were here to take over and to annihilate all earthlings. The radio station even talked about places like New York City, St Louis, and Chicago and the US Military had nothing to stop Martian’s technology. A panic had started because the listeners thought this radio fictional program was real. Millions of people ran out of their homes. My father had told me this radio show cause a major panic and many people committed suicide to avoid Martian. But the more I study, a lot of records say there was very little panic was really happening. What can be really proven by this incident is war of words and rumors, The action of our mouth and tongue can cause a lot of damage and even more so with social media, I have been called out many times, because i was a keyboard warrior. It would be great, if we as Christian would let our fingers, mouth and tongue reflect and say what the loving God wants us to say to each other. God bless you all, the Lord loves you and so do I.
