James 2:25-26 By Her Works, She Begot the Savior
Rumors of what God did to the kingdom of Egypt to set free the Hebrew slave was all over all the region especially since the Egypt Empire was a very powerful nation. Fear grew more and more as God’s people were moving across the Sinai Peninsula on their way to Israel and every kingdom of people in the path was destroyed. Which brings us to the woman the word of God names as Rahab, and her desire for her and her family to be saved from the death and destruction of all of Jericho. Not only does the Bible talk about Rahab, but so does Josephus the Jewish historian in his writings, The Bible says many times Rahas b was a harlot or prostitute and Josephus says she was sex worker that was a innkeeper which make a lot of sense way two Hebrew spies would hide themselves in her house. Rahab recognizes the guys as Hebrews and asks the king of Jericho, to bring out the Hebrew boys who went into your inn. She basically lied to the king and said, I don’t know where they are. But she knew perfectly well where they were and told the sons of Israel why she lied about their whereabouts and she helped hide them. Just like the rest of the people of Jericho, she heard the Lord God was marching people like an army destroying any kingdom that got in their way. Now most of Israel were former slaves and not much nation of warriors, not great in number and barely had weapons, but as long as they listened to God’s voice He gave them great victory. So by faith, she asks for salvation from death for herself and her family as well, and asks I wanna follow your God, cause I believe His is God of heavens and earth and buy works she helps God’s people and became a child of God also.
The Hebrew boys were representatives of God so they accepted her or confession of faith and granted her safety from death and destruction they knew God would deliver to Jericho. When the time is for the Lord to lead His people to destroy Jericho the representatives God spare her and her family’s life.
Joshua 6:25 However, Rahab the prostitute and her father’s household and all she had, Joshua spared; and she has lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
Rahab is the not kind of woman and person a lot of Israelite would not associate with or even share their God or His gift of salvation. First off she was a harlot or whore who perform sex for money, and as Canaanite, which makes her the first Gentiles, to ask a messenger or God for His salvation and it be given to her. Not only was Rahab given salvation and a place to live in the promised land, she is also the great great great grandmother of Jesus the Messiah.
Matthew 1:5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse,
Many times when Rahab’s name is written in the Holy Bible, it seems to remain the reader that Rahab was a harlot, or a prostitute but James 2:25 and Hebrews 11:30-39 that Rahab along with other champions of faith were justified by works. Don’t let your faith be like a couch potato or pew warmer or a bedside baptist, use your faith to do some work for the Lord your God. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel H.
Hebrews 11:30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after the Israelites had marched around them for seven days. 31 By faith the prostitute Rahab did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace.
