Exodus 20:1-2 Deliverance To Freedom, For He Is Our God

Exodus 20:1-2

1 Then God spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

The Lord is reintroducing Himself to the people of Israel, who have spent four  centuries in Egypt. Four hundred years earlier the house of Jacob traveled to a foreign land during a famine, so that they wouldn’t starve to death. But the Pharaohs of Egypt took advantage of the humble people of Israel and made them slaves. The Lord heard His people cry for deliverance, and He sent Moses and after several plagues, the Hebrew people were given freedom and allowed to leave. When God first appeared to Moses, the Lord told him about how to return Israel back into His worship to the very mountain, where  Moses saw the burning bush.

Exodus 3:12  And He said, “Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.”

The scripture in Exodus 20:1-2 is the being of a worship service, instead of rabbi or priest to deliver the sermon the Lord God Himself, introduce Himself to the former slaves and clearly stated, I am your Lord God who free you from the bondage of slavery. The Lord God wants to teach them what they have forgotten so many years serving under Egyptian rule. Some people believe the ten commandments didn’t exist before Mount Sinai, the word of God says they did, father Abraham knew them and kept them.

Genesis 26:5 Because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My laws.

Worship had taught the people who, never nothing about worship, they only knew there was a God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. A relationship had to be re-establish, and the first thing He did was introduce Himself and told them who He was, that He is the provider of freedom. Many people think of the commandments of God, as strict rules of, thou shalt not do this, or thou shalt not have a good time. But the true children of God find true freedom within God’s commandments.

Psalm 119:45 I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.

Romans 7:12  So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.

There is a famous saying among Christians,”God is good,” the Hebrew people spent four hundreds as slaves, building the kingdom of Egypt, without receiving any payment or reward. Young children are much like growing believers, they want structure and order. With statues and order, we live in anarchy, and that is what it seems people want right now. People are demanding equal rights and justice, but they are creating anarchist behavior trying to achieve freedom.  When we say God is Lord, but don’t live by His commandments, we are really saying in our heart, we want a lawless world. Every man, woman & child have to watch their every move, because humanity wants to live in a dog eat dog society. God wants to declare Himself our Lord, and free us from the slavery or sin, but we can’t let Him, if we enjoy chaos more. The journey of disobedience is love and hard, but the Lord Jesus tells His followers, take His yoke cause by learning His way is easy. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus you & so do I. Sam H.

Matthew 11:29  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
