Ephesians 6:17 Guard thy Head
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
To understand the armor of God and the different articles of it, the battle between David and Goliath is beneficial to read and study. It is also helpful to know a lot about David because he is a man who has a heart like God. The word helmet first appears in God’s word in 1st Samuel 17:5, and behold, Goliath is wearing it. 1st Samuel chapter 17 is also where the shepherd boy fights Goliath and takes him down. Salvation means having faith or assurance that harm will not come to you in life, even after death. Now David the shepherd boy had faith in his salvation because he heard the bondservant of the Lord, Samuel, tell him he would be king. This happens in 1st Samuel 16:4-13. Samuel, the bondservant of the Lord, had thought David’s other brothers would be the next king because they were older and more robust. But the Lord had to inform Samuel to look at a person’s heart to see if they are humble and not arrogant. 1st Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. But the shepherd boy David had more enemies other than Goliath in 1st Samuel 17; his brothers mocked him. His father Jesse sent David to take his brothers some provisions, bread, and cheese to eat. Upon his arrival, he heard Goliath mocking the army of Israel, and he heard him take God’s name in vain. So, he asked, who is that man that dares to disgrace the Lord that way? Instead of a straight answer, David’s brothers give him opposition.
Because David’s older brothers had seen Samuel bypass all of them to see him be anointed king, they had malice and bitter feelings for him. I have received opposition from family and former friends in the previous weeks. I was hurt temporarily and am still hurting because my family and friends don’t want a relationship with me anymore. My heart and mindset are on the Lord, not really on others. Salvation in the Lord gives me eternal life, and I know He will never forsake me. Sticks and stones hurt, but only God can condemn me to hell If I don’t seek Him with all my heart, mind, and soul. Yes, I am not perfect; I can sometimes be a hypocrite. But so was David if you read the rest of 1st and 2nd Samuel, also 1st Chronicles. But if you read all of God’s word, you find that few of God’s bondservants were perfect. But their mindsets were on the Lord, and hearts were to Him, not to each other. Yes, the insults I have received from family members and former friends hurt. But the Lord is King of Kings; they were not, nor am I. I am only a humble bondservant of the Lord who loves sharing the gospel with you. God bless you and Jesus Christ, and I love you.
