Acts 18:24-28

Now a Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by birth, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus; and he was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; 26 and he spoke out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. 27 And when he wanted to go across to Achaia, the brethren encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him; and when he had arrived, he helped those who had believed through grace 28, for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

My father, Jerry Lee Head, taught me lots of good, fatherly advice. He once told me that a good salesperson will be prosperous if they know the product they sell. An excellent, successful salesperson can sell ice cubes to an Eskimo, meaning selling a product to a person they really do not need. In the early part of my walk with God, I wanted to be a colportage. This is a Bible salesperson. So, I inquired about being a colporteur, so one came to my church to meet me. He had to ask how well I knew the Bible and other books the church also sold. I told him I only knew a little, so he informed me that a colporteur does not make a decent income. So, to be successful, I must know the material I sell. When I wrote Bible-teaching blogs, I knew it was also important, to know God’s word and about His loving grace. So, I seriously prayed and study the Holy Scriptures. I feel successful but give God all the glory. The ancient city of Alexandria, Egypt, was a famous port city named by Alexander the Great after he conquered it. Since it was a port city, it was trendy for cosmopolitan culture. Two of the ancient 7 wonders of the world existed in Alexandria, the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Library of Alexandria. Alexander was well established before the Messiah Jesus Christ was born, and people of different cultures lived there, even Jews. The Library of Alexandria had a collection of ancient scrolls and books, books in Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic, Latin, and maybe some Asian languages. So that is a good reason the Jew Apollo was very eloquent in God’s word. Apollo was like many Jews. They knew the word of God, but hardly anything about the Lord’s grace. The Old Testament is full of God giving grace after grace. Jesus (Immanuel) demonstrates grace after grace to people Jews that lived anywhere, even In Alexandria, would not. Apollo knew of John the Baptist. Acts chapter 18 says Apollo knew of baptism by John. John was the voice that pointed the way to the soon-coming Messiah. So, when good godly people heard Apollo teaching the word, they informed him the Messiah had come and fulfilled all the Old Testament prophecy and that Jesus is the Messiah. So, from then on, when Apollo continued to teach and preach, he was preaching the way, the truth, and the true light of God’s grace, Jesus Christ. If you are sharing the good news gospel as a successful salesperson, know the truth that Jesus Christ fulfills God’s Amazing grace. God bless you; Jesus Christ loves you, and so do I. Colossians 4:3 praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; 4 that I may make it clear in the way that I ought to proclaim it. 5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity.
