Matthew 5:17 The Beatitude of the Lord Fulfilling His Word
As Jesus continues the great sermon on the mount, He tells His followers something they already know, the Lord is the same & will never change & His word never gonna change. Jesus is telling the congregation, something they had hoped in & all of their ancients also looking forward to, He came to fulfill the word of God. Jesus is the word of God, Moses & the Prophets all wrote about Jesus & knew God would fulfill His promise. The word of God says it impossible for the Lord to tell a lie;
So it was no surprise to the crowd, when they heard Jesus say He came to fulfill. The Lord is called the Rock & for the reason a rock is solid & it can’t be broken. The Lord is like a Rock, He is faithful to His word, so He never plans on doing away with His eternal word.
Deuteronomy 32:4“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.
Jesus was talking about the word of God written in the Old Testament & at that time, they didn’t call it the Old Testament. The collection of books in the Hebrew Bible is called Tanakh. I will do this blog or devotional in a series, a series within a series of the Sermon on the Mount devotional. I personally feel that Matthew 5:17-20 is a very important of the the greatest sermons ever preached. Sam H.
