2 Corinthians 3:4-6 A New Covenant Gives Confidence

2 Corinthians 3:4-6

Such confidence we have through Christ to ward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

My old friend Matt, delivered an amazing sermon this past Easter holiday, & something they said about Jesus resurrection, I never thought of before, I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing what he taught me & his to his church, but someone once told me a good pastor steals other pastor’s sermons On the morning when after the earthquake had roll the stone that covered Jesus tomb was rolled away, Mary one of Jesus beloved followers came to take care of dead body, but when she poked her head inside Jesus’ tomb, she was two angels inside, one at where is head would have been, & the other angel at where is feet would have been, nothing between the angels but a neatly folded Jesus burial wrappings.

John 20:12 and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying.

Matt said this was a new Mercy seat in the New Testament, if you don’t know what the mercy seat is, I will tell you. The mercy seat is told in Exodus 25:17-22, it is basically part of the ark of covenant, where God’s Law (10 commandments ) was kept, a golden box, it had a top with two angels (cherubim). That extended their wings to cover the mercy seat. As a requirement of the Old Covenant, for the forgiven of all Israel’s sin, a sacrifice was made outside the temple, then a priest would appear before the mercy seat & have a talk with Lord;

Exodus 25:22 There I will meet with you; and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, I will speak to you about all that I will give you in commandment for the sons of Israel.

Jesus’ death & resurrection, killed  the system of the Old Covenant, no more do we have to stand before two tablets of stone, & read what the Lord wrote with His Almighty Hand to know His character. When a person accepts Jesus, as the Son & Lamb of God, His death & sacrifice is enough to forgive & give every man & woman, who has  confidence or believe, Jesus is who He says He is.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

The Old & New Testament or covenant have something in common, If God’s people show they can have confidence in His word & obey what He says. We come forward as an act of worship & He gives us a much better sacrifice, just like father Abraham did, who also had a covenant with God.

Genesis 22:10 And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11 At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”12 “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

My dear friends, can you say with confidence in your heart, that the Lord, is you Yahweh-Yireh, that He has provided His sacrifice, His Lamb of God. Do you know what the Lord did with His Son, He really said, I’m for your sin & you breaking the covenant, & then He  paid the penalty, with something you could never give or even afford,the cost was too high. Only when you surrender yourself as true worship & sacrifice, His Lamb of God is your Lamb also. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You, for New Covenant paid for by Your Son’s blood, thank you showing in my heart to be more like You & not myself, please help to reach others, & show them Your glory, in Jesus name i pray, Amen. Shalom., by brothers & sisters in Christ. Tell me something, would you be humble enough to say I’m sorry for something you didn’t do, or you know 100% it was your fault. The Lord you God did, all you have to do is accept His apology.?

Hebrews 7:18 Yes, the old requirement about the priesthood was set aside because it was weak and useless. 19 For the law never made anything perfect. But now we have confidence in a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
