Exodus 6:19-20 Mother’s Sparing Love
Jacob and the Israelites were welcomed and told to come to Egypt because they were related to Joseph. Joseph was a gifted man, and everything he touched, the Lord blessed. The King of Egypt saw Joseph’s divine wisdom, so the Pharaoh made him the Vizier of Egypt. Egypt was thriving during a famine Joseph prophesied about. So grateful the Pharaoh invited Joseph’s family; that is how the Hebrews lived in Egypt. Years passed, and Egyptian sons of kings’ gratefulness turned to fear and control. Instead of working in harmony with the Egyptians, they were forced into slavery. The slave labor had not stopped the Israelites from obeying the Lord; they were still fruitful and multiplying. Out of fear, the Pharaoh demanded all Hebrew boys be killed as soon as the midwives saw a newborn was a boy and not a girl.
Exodus 1:22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born, you are to throw into the Nile, but every daughter, you are to keep alive.” ~ Exodus 2:1 Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi. 2 And the woman conceived and gave birth to a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got him a papyrus basket and covered it with tar and pitch. Then she put the child in it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
Most Women desire to be wives and mothers; Jochebed was no different. Her name in Hebrew means “Glory of Yahweh.” Jochebed let her glory shine for the Lord by not allowing her children to be murdered. She risked her life and hid her newborn son Moses for three months. When Moses grew, Jochebed gave her son to the Lord prayerfully. She made him, his little ark, a basket. After she said what she thought was her last goodbye, Jochebed lowered herself into the river Nile, pushed Moses away, and told his older sister to follow him. God is so good; Jehovah Jireh gave Moses a new mother, the very daughter of the King of Egypt. The Egyptian princess fell in love with a beautiful Hebrew boy; she asked her father may she raise him as her son. As much as a tyrannical ruler the Pharaoh was, he could not turn down his little girl’s wish. Maybe he fell in love with the beautiful boy himself, so because the Egyptian princess pulled the boy from the Nile River, she named him Moses. The princess saw a young Hebrew girl nearby. Not knowing the girl was Moses’ older sister, she asks if a Hebrew woman could nurse the baby boy she just adopted. So, Moses’ sister ran and got Jochebed. God is so good; not only did He save Jochebed’s son, but she was also paid to feed him and teach him enough about the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God is good, Amen! Jesus loves you, and so do I, a bondservant of the Lord, Samuel Jerry Head.
