1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Edifying the Church with Spiritual Gifts

1 Corinthians 14:1-5

1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation. 4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church. 5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.

The Lord wants His followers to use their Spiritual Gifts to edify the church. The meaning of edification is to lift one up to be more spiritual, more moral, to know the more of God’s will, in his or her life. There are three spiritual gifts in these passages; prophecy tongues & interpreting tongues, all of these spiritual gifts were to be edified. The gift of prophecy is placed the highest, because it edifies the whole church. While the gift of tongues is good, but only lifts one self & helps him or her be more spiritual, but that same individual, can get lifted by the gift of prophecy, cause it edifies the whole church family, so many people benefit or are edified rather than a solo person.  Since the spiritual gift of tongues was the help to witness to others who didn’t speak our same language or tongue & to non-believers, how many times is a non-believer that doesn’t speak the native language or tongue in the same church.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.

The gift of tongue & prophecy would be done away with; because in modern times, some languages; ; like English is taught all over the world, because it is a business language. The gift of prophecy is less needed, cause in ancient times, the Bible wasn’t in every house & even a person who knew the word of God could hear His familiar words in the secular world (non-Christian); in movies, tv & music. A Prophet main purpose was to a messenger of the Lord, but the Bible is just about every & His word is His main prophecy .

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord God does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.

Dear friends, I’m not trying to put one spiritual gift above another, the Word of God does that for itself, if someone doesn’t understand it, then he/she or even a church, is led by another spirit. You should always read the Bible for yourself, & trust pastors & a church denomination doctrine or the beliefs it teaches. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the Spiritual Gifts you give Your sons & daughters, to edify Your church & each member of Your church, please give me the gift of teaching to reach others, as this ministry You have me to do, to edify others. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you & so do I. Sam H.

Romans 15:2 Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.3 For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.”
