Proverbs 4:24 Speak Godly, No Vain Words
Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put perverse lips far from you.
In 1985 The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) became a group, to help control the music and the material that was in the albums their children bought or listen to. PMRC was concerned about music that had violent, drug-related, or sexual themes. A lot of music they were concerned about didn’t have foul language but still had inappropriate lyrics. Many musical protests saying their first amendment rights were being challenged. As a result in November of 1995, a warning label was placed on album covers. But record sales increased, even from myself, I would buy CD’s or cassettes that had black and white warning stickers on them, and music sales did increase with the label so overall the record labels and the musical artist didn’t complain too much about losing 1st amendment rights or any censorship. In the motion picture, film industry all language was clean and wholesome but in 1939 a few months before the film “ Gone With Wind” was released two words were passed as now accepted to be recorded for films. Many moviegoers were shocked to hear “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” but Gone with the wind Movie is still the most highly grossed movie of all time. In modern times and currently, it is normal to see a movie or listen to music and hear perverse or unwholesome words. In fact, many will say the movie or the song is boring without and that kind of language is normal. Not only in speaking perverse lifestyle is acceptable as if casual sex is normal and dressing in a non-modest way is acceptable. The Lord is holy, holiness means to be clean and if we call ourselves Christian, we must be clean in how we live and talk. When someone who calls themselves a Christian tells lies, that person’s words have no value, and Christ’s name is very valuable. When a person’s language isn’t pleasant or clean to another’s person’s ear, the the name Christ in your Christian faith, is unholy therefore God’s name has been taken in vain. The majority of people know foul language isn’t allowed in the court of law, in a school building that is full of children, or in the church of worship? Why do so many people and even myself sometimes say we love God and are Christian, make our words empty and unclean at times and call it acceptable? I like to ask for prayer for myself, that my words and life reflect God’s glory and nothing unclean or perverse be heard or seen. God bless you, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel J Head
