Proverbs 1:1-7 Learning to Be Godly, From a King
The proverbs (truths obscurely expressed, maxims) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: 2 To know [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction; To discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight, 3 To receive instruction in wise behavior and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity;4 That prudence (good judgment, astute common sense) may be given to the naïve or inexperienced [who are easily misled], And knowledge and discretion (intelligent discernment) to the youth, 5 The wise will hear and increase their learning, And the person of understanding will acquire wise counsel and the skill [to steer his course wisely and lead others to the truth], 6 To understand a proverb and a figure [of speech] or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their riddles [that require reflection]. 7 The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.
King Solomon the author of Proverb introduced him as son of David who was also king of Israel. As king of the nation he rules over, he wants to give the nation, he rules over wisdom and knowledge. King David was a great and gave Solomon plenty of fatherly advice, but that isn’t where Solomon got most of his wisdom from. Solomon asked the Lord to give him wisdom to rule over the people, ( 1 Kings 3:6-13) and God was very happy to give Solomon what he prayed for, cause over all God gives to those who want to do good with the blessing His give away.
1 Kings 4:29 Now God gave Solomon [exceptional] wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand of the seashore. 30 Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.
Now I am not the son of king David, nor do I have the wisdom of Solomon, but I am the son of the King of Glory. As His son, I want to teach God’s glory to others and He will answer your prayers also and God’s wisdom can dwell within your life. Now I didn’t grow up under a royal king, nor did I go to private school to receive royal education. When a father teaches his children proverbs, he wants him to talk like him, eat like him, walk like him, he simply wants his children to be a splitting image of himself. Proverbs are a way of parents telling their children, do as they do, and the household will have harmony and peace. The teaching to a young child may sound like riddles, but when they are old, they will remember that mom and dad told them what to do in this situation. Verse 3 of Proverbs of chapter 1 to 7 may sum the book of Proverbs, and all of God’s word. God wants His children to have integrity, ( quality of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral uprightness. the state of being whole and undivided) . So basically, ) the book of Proverbs is king Solomon writing down the words of wisdom to children of God. He repeats the word of king David, the beginning of wisdom, to fear God and be just like obey word and integrity is by living a godly life. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you and so do I .
