Psalm 22:17 See Jesus, Believe and Eternal Life
I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;
In the ancient world, there was no television, movie theater, radio station, and no internet for social media. Nothing attracts a crowd like an execution on the cross so someone is being hanged. Violence in the ancient world was another form of entertainment that attracted many people who wanted to see blood and gut and people die. Both forms of executions; crucifixion and a hangman’s gallows were done up high off the ground. The standard cross was between 8 to 15 feet high. The whole purpose to people of Rome that any broke it’s laws, or questioned it’s authority would suffer a gruesome death. It was meant to make a victim a spectacle display and those who stare at it would see a naked person die of a very painful, and humiliating death imaginable. The people who followed Jesus during His earthly ministry and listened to His teaching, would have serious fright in their hearts when they heard Him say, if you want to follow Him, you have to take up your cross, on a daily basis.
On the cross, knew His body was dying and He was fulfilling the promise of God the Father to be His Lamb and provide salvation for all who accept the payment of their sins. How can one just look at Jesus on the cross and receive salvation? Jesus had said this in the gospel of John chapter 3;
John 3:14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.
Jesus is quoting scripture from the Old Testament book of Numbers chapter 21, it was a test of faith and trust in God. The Lord sent snakes in the camp of where the Israelite, cause they were a complaining people. They said no which is called angel bread or food, so God said hey you don’t like my bread let me send poisonous snakes and if they bite you, surely you will die. When the Israelites knew that they had sinned against God and questioned His goodness. They ask Moses for instruction on how to be saved from the snakes, so God told Moses to lift a bronze snake on a pole and who stares at will have life; (Numbers 21:4-9). How can that be related to Psalm 22:17 and the Messiah saying He is being stared at. There are two types in the kingdom of heaven and earth. Around the cross of cavalry the majority looked at Jesus on the cross and question is He really the Son of God, so they have disbelief in their hearts, ( Mark 15:31-32, Luke 23:36-37, Matthew 27:42, and Luke 23:38). The gospel of John chapter 12, talks about Jesus being lifted up on high, and how it will relate to judgment day. In verse 31 to 32 Jesus says that the ruler of this world who is Satan will be cast out, and that Jesus would be lifted up about the above earth. In verse 33 the crowd quotes scripture saying they also heard that Christ will remain forever, and ask how can the Son of Man be lifted up and who exactly is the Son of God. The words of the two criminals that were being crucified the same day as Jesus, are the representative of the people of the world. One group of people will see or know Jesus and question if He is God and then there are those who will see Jesus and know His is the Lord of the kingdom of heaven and earth. So ask yourself, will you and do you believe that Jesus Christ is Lord if so , when you will be saved and paradise will be yours. God bless you all, Jesus loves you and so do I. Samuel Head
