Psalm 22:3-5 He Restores Souls, Never Disappoints

Psalm 22:3-5

3 Yet You are holy, You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. 4 In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You rescued them. 5 To You they cried out and they fled to safety; In You they trusted and were not disappointed.

David was the second king of Israel and a shepherd for his father Jesse, he was also a musician. He may have played his harp many times singing songs to his father’s sheep and to pass his time by. King Saul had many issues with mental state probably because he wanted to rule Israel his way and not the Lord. So in his time of trouble he would ask David to play him a tune and sing a song to calm his spirit.

1 Samuel 16:22  So Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David now be my attendant for he has found favor in my sight.” 23 So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would feel relieved and become well, and the evil spirit would leave him.

Psalm 22:1-5 teaches in times of suffering and pain, never forget the Lord is God and always holy. It is very easy to push God away in the middle of suffering and pain, but that is just what King Saul did. Saul when he became king did the Lord’s will over Israel, but later did what is right in his own eyes and his kingdom failed apart and he failed apart himself, eventually   committed suicide. The act of suicide is completely selfish, the person judges themselves and give themselves death. God is holy and the one gives and takes lives, and taking your life is telling God, I don’t love your gift and I don’t love you. In 1985 a movie named King David was released, actor Richard Gere played an adult version of David. In one King Saul asks David to play him a song. So David takes out his harp and starts to sing and the lyric heard in the movie is, “the Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want, He lays me down in green pastures, He restores my soul,”. Amazing piece of Bible passage if there is any in all of the holy scripture. Not only does God give you things like food, clothing, shelter, friends and family as things you want and need. Your soul can be at peace, unlike what King Saul experienced. He has pushed God away more and more, because he wanted to do life his way, he wanted to be king of Israel his way and he wanted to die his way. Saul didn’t allow the Lord to be his shepherd and his soul was never restored to the man of God he used to be, because personal pride of being king of the land made him completely stubborn. Psalm 22:5 makes a powerful declaration that those who trust in God are never disappointed and know He is always near them. God bless you all, the Shepherd loves you and so do I. Samuel Head
