1 Corinthians 14:10-14 Gift of Tongues and Talking Like a Barbarian
1 Corinthians 14:10
As of 2020, there are 7,111 different known languages (tongues) of the world, so when we as humans like to travel, someone will sound like a barbarian to someone. Barbarian is the word, the apostle Paul, used in the passage, to describe how people of different languages (tongue) sound like to each other. The word Barbarian is a term the ancient Greeks used to describe those who didn’t speak Greek, then the Romans used the term for anyone that for anyone that talked like they were uncivilized or primitive, basically a outsider. We might not think much of the word Barbarian, maybe because Hollywood made it look like a muscle bound man with a sword swinging man. But to the ancient Greeks & Romans, if you didn’t speak Greek or Latin, you were completely unwanted. Because the old saying When in Rome, Do as the Roman do, was a way of saying you adapt to where you are, the great massive amount of people you are with, should adapt to you. The apostle Paul had stated the there were many languages around in first century, which was many years after the Lord God, made many language to make everyone sound like barbarian to each other, of as scripture say give them confusion;
Genesis 11:7 Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”
So the apostle Paul told the church, for the church to edify, the barbarian language (tongues) need to be interpreted. Paul also says if someone prays in tongues (different language) & if he or she is not interpreted, & everyone if Paul himself hearing the prayer, cannot understand it, his mind is unfruitful, that is church that is not edify, the Spiritual Gift of tongues (different languages) is fruitful or unless. As for myself I have been at Bible studies & even Sabbath worship, where people spoke different languages (tongues), but I wasn’t concerned. I was with other Christians,I knew they were there to worship or learn about the Lord, & we were all believers & someone would translate for them, & even if wasn’t I knew they were expressing their love for Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.
Scripture says tongues will cease, me & my brother debated this scripture last night, but maybe Paul knew that one there would be no confusion of different languages (tongues one day, & it is happening now. The Japanese made mobile devices that would translate targeted languages (tongues) simply when someone spoke into the device. In 2005 the Japanese once again developed mobile translation for cell phones & was even translating more targeted languages (tongues). My brother in Christ told me the military widely used these mobile translation devices, & they are for sale, online. When this device is widely available, people can very easily use the gift of tongue & tell someone with a different language (tongues) & tell them about the gospel message of Jesus. Praise the Lord, that His message will be heard all over the earth soon & His return is approaching soon & I have recently learned why Christopher Columbus, sailed the ocean blue in 1592. He wanted to spread the gospel message, so that he could speed up the return of Jesus. I think God for modern technology that helps spread the gospel, the Printing Press was a major piece of technology that made the gospel message available to all who wanted to read the gift of tongue on paper & many of us read it ever since 1440. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the Gift of Tongues & interpretation, I hope your gospel message gets witnessed to all people of different tongues (language) all over the world. God bless you all, the Lord Jesus loves you & so do I. Love Sam H.
2 Samuel 23:2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.
